Daigle Houma, Terrebonne Parish, LA Houma newspaper, 1946, exact paper date not available JEAN BAPTISTE GROS J.B.GROS, 95, Dies Sunday (30 June 1946) The long cherished dream of Jean Baptiste GROS to one day become the oldest resident of Terrebonne parish ended in death at 12:50 noon Sunday. The end came following two weeks of illness from which, because of his advanced age, he was unable to recover, according to his daughter, Mrs. Ernest HOTARD, of Ruth Street, where he has made his home for the past two decades. Although he was a native of Assumption Parish, Mr. Gros lived in Terrebonne since the age of 15. A large portion of his time was spent on Bayou Blue. He was a swamper and farmer. Born in 1850 he was 11 years old at the beginning of the war between the States. He spoke frequently about the war in which his older brother fought. A good conversationalist with a vivid memory of bygone days, Not infrequently he was seen seated on a bench at the American Legion grounds awaiting some passing friend to give him a lift to Bayou Blue where another daughter, Mrs. Cyprian SAVOIE, resided. Mr. GROS was preceded in death by his wife, the former Mary Severne MARCEL, who passed away 20 years ago. He is survived by four living daughters, 35 grand children, 55 great grandchildren, and 12 great, great grandchildren. ============================ Obit graciously provided by Ronald Pellegrin and Gloria Pellegrin Babin Submitted by: Cynthia F.
