H. CLAIBORNE THIBODAUX, who died, of yellow fever, at his residence, in this Parish, on the 11th inst., at 9 1/2 o'clock, A.M., after an illness of five days. Aged 45 years. Our parish suffers from the death which we record--a loss as severe as it was unlooked for. The deceased was one of our most valuable and esteemed fellow- parishioners, whose intelligence was devoted to the interests of the community, and whose admirable social qualities secured to him the affection of all who knew him. His kindness, his charity of disposition was almost proverbial--to the needy who appealed to him for aid, Judge T., was always ready to give counsel and assistance. His goodness of nature was practically known to all came in contact with him--to the poor, by his active tho' unpretending charity--to those who met him as equals, by the lavish effusion of his hospitality. The deceased was a member of one of our most influential families, and his confessed abilities and force of character were fully adequate to the position he occupied. In political life, though an ardent and devoted partisan, and by his great personal popularity wielding a remarkable influence, he never became the object of those keen animosities which frequently embittered the contest of party, for his frankness, his firmness and his sincerity disarmed and conciliated those whose political sentiments were adverse to his own. He had at various times been confided with important public trusts, which he always discharged with ample credit and to the satisfaction of the people. A large concourse accompanied him to his last resting place, to which he was consigned with all the honors of the Masonic Order, of which he was a zealous member. ============================ The Houma Times; Saturday July 6, 1929 Mrs. Wiley P. THIBODAUX, (nee BLOCK) Mrs. Wiley E. THIBODAUX was called to her Eternal Home on Sunday, June 30, 1929, after a lingering illness of more than a year. Her home going carries a pang to a wide circle of relatives and friends. In her passing, Houma and surrounding country has suffered an irreparable loss, for she was always ready to serve in what ever way she could. In church work, Red Cross work, Storm Relief, Flood Relief, State Anti-Tuberculosis Work, and many other philanthropic and humanitarian efforts put forth in the community. She was a sympathetic and tireless worker. Her love of humanity always prompted her to lend willing aid and it mattered not whether this call was from some organization or from a lonely soul in distress, she always responded. Many kind deeds and thoughtful acts of charity were done by her, about which only the family and her closest friends knew. She never sought publicity, but was always modest and retiring. Her friends deem it worthy of applying to her these familiar lines. "None knew thee but to love thee. None named thee but to praise". And the eulogy remained true to the end of her days. For in her dying moments she would at times gain strength enough to order some act of thoughtfulness for a friend. Her home life was beautiful and happy. She was a devoted wife and mother. None who ever visited her home will ever forget her easy and pleasing hospitality. She possessed a fine combination of admirable traits of character: genuine in heart, true loyal to her kindred, friends, church and gentle in disposition. She was the exemplification of "Whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report." She was greatly beloved by a host of friends. She is survived by her husband, a daughter, Mrs. Russel MOISE, a son, Alton, besides one sister, Miss Sophie BLOCK of Varnville, S.C. and three brothers: Raphael BLOCK of Bastrop, LA; Ben BLOCK of New York; and Jack BLOCK of Alexandria, LA. Funeral Services were held from St. Matthews Episcopal Church, July 1st. A large circle of friends bemoan the death of this beautiful character, and we extend sincere love and sympathy to her family in their affliction and assure them of our prayers in their behalf.
