Sterken, - The friends here of the Sterken family, for many years residents of Donaldsonville, but who for the past twelvemonth have been domiciled in Houma, were grieved to learn of the death at that place of Mrs. A.J. Sterken, the sad event having transpired last Sunday. Mrs. Sterken had been in poor health for for a long time, and several months ago she was taken to New Orleans to undergo a surgical operation at the Charity Hospital in the hope of benefitting her condition, but the treatment proved unavailing and her health steadily declined. The funeral took place at Houma Monday morning, with services and interment in the Catholic church and cemetery. Mrs. Sterken was a native of Donaldsonville, nee Fanny Caillier, and was fifty- two years of age. She is survived by her husband, two daughters, Mrs. Nick Maire and Miss Irene Sterken, four sons, Joseph, Tillman, Henry and Louis Sterken, all of Houma, and one brother, Fernand Caillier, of this city. To these afflicted ones profound sympathy is extended by a wide circle of friends and acquaintances.
