JAMES TAYLOR & MARY BREEDLOVE FAMILY BIBLE PAGES Contributed by Timothy Hudson ************************************************ Copyright. All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ************************************************ My cousin Mrs. Geneva Ward Chevalier Aulds had a keen interest in her family's history. She was a very nice lady and was always very willing to share her information on our mutual ancestors with me. She was a Mormon and thus had an interest in her ancestors from an early age. I think in the early 1950s she somehow rescued the William Taylor Family Bible from the home of a descendant who saw no value in it. It had been mistreated and was in poor shape. Shortly afterwards, she went before a notary public and attested to the names and dates written in the Bible. I have transcribed the typed and notarized family information from this Bible below. Mrs. Aulds showed me the originals of the Bible several times, and they are in horrible condition. Basically, each page is in four smaller pieces of paper and the writing nearly indecipherable. William Taylor and Catherine Gray lived in Georgia in the 1790s and early 1800s, then to Butler County Alabama in about 1818. They joined Pigeon Creek Baptist Church with several of their children in the early 1820s, including their son James Taylor, a Baptist minister. Several years after their deaths, many of their children moved together into what was then northern Ouachita Parish Louisiana. Their son John Taylor was one of the original 1837 petitioners to the Louisiana Legislature to create a new parish. This was accomplished with the creation of Union Parish in 1839, and John Taylor was the first parish judge, serving for several decades. He had previously been the sheriff of Butler County. ********************************************************************* Mrs. Geneva Aulds' sworn affidavit is transcribed below: November 2, 1955 State of Texas Brazoria County City of Velasco Before me, the undersigned authority, personally came and appeared, Geneva Ward Chevalier, to me well known, who when sworn, deposed, and said: That she was born on 29, September, 1915, in Union Parish, Louisiana, and was 40 years old on the 29, September, 1955, and that she was a daughter of Oscar Ward and Veola Pardue and a granddaughter of Henry Westley Ward and Linnie Cornellia Sawyer and a great-granddaughter of Samuel Sawyer and Elizabeth Benjamin Taylor and a great-great-granddaughter of James Taylor and Mary Breedlove, who were married on January 6, 1816.
