The marriage license stated they should be married, as required by Louisiana Law, in the presence of at least 3 male witnesses. The witnesses were O.L. Fitzgerald, W.J. Alford and Mrs. B.C. Smith. WRITER’S NOTE: I told Aunt Irene in 1982 that she was improperly married, since women could not be witnesses in 1925. She replied, “Aaw foot, you are like a big ole bear looking for mischief to get into.” Shortly after they married in 1925, Clyde and Irene moved into the only home they would ever have. It was constructed by Johnny Williams and Clyde A. Risinger. The house was built on 99 and ¾ acres of land that was part of the old Risinger place. Johnny Williams was a brother-in-law to Irene, having married her oldest sister, Lizzie. Clyde farmed during their first years of marriage. In the early 1940s he started working away from home as a Supervisor for the Henry Road Construction Company out of Dubach, Louisiana. He would usually come home on most week-ends. While Clyde was away from the farm, he hired Willie Newt, a local black man to do the farming in his absence. George Laurin, Clyde’s son, has a very happy memory of how much he loved Willie, and how much time he took with him when he was supposed to be resting after he ate his noon meal. Laurin statedthat, “Willie was a great guy and he still has fond memories of him after all these years.” Clyde soon started working for himself. He bought timber and had the timber cut or sold to various lumber companies. When Reynolds and Draper Lumber Company & Sawmill first started up just south of El Dorado, at the intersection of Highway 167 and Iron Mountain Road, Clyde went to work spotting and buying timber for them. He worked for Reynolds and Draper from 1945 until his death in 1959. Most of the information included was researched by Burton R. Risinger, brother of Clyde, Dr. George L. Risinger, son of Clyde, and Vance Risinger, son of Burton Risinger and nephew of Clyde. The history was written by Lyle Smith. December 10, 2004 ###########################################################################
