The name of Noah's mother is unknown at this time. Addison Scarborough moved from Burke Co GA to Conecuh Co AL about 1819. In 1827 he moved north to the border of Dallas/Wilcox County, near the village of Old Snow Hill in Wilcox County. Addison Scarborough's plantation adjoined that of Richard Fowler, and both were Primitive Baptists and members of Bethsaida Baptist Church. Richard's daughter Samantha Fowler had been born in Monroe Co AL in 1819. In 1837, Noah and Samantha married in Wilcox Co AL. They lived near Snow Hill and near the border of Dallas and Wilcox Cos. AL until 1847. In that year, probably to escape a severe drought that drove thousands of settlers from GA and AL westward, Noah and Samantha Scarborough and George W. Albritton and others from the Snow Hill community moved west. They all settled in Union Parish Louisiana. George W. Albritton first married Samantha's sister Elizabeth (or Milly) Fowler, but she died after giving birth to two sons. In January 1850, George W. Albritton married Samantha Fowler Scarborough's sister Sarah Ann Fowler. Noah Scarborough and George Albritton bought adjoining plantations in Union Parish LA and their descendents still live near each other today. In late 1850, Richard Fowler and his wife Sarah Fowler left Snow Hill, Wilcox County and settled near their daughters Samantha Scarborough and Sarah Ann Albritton in Union Parish LA. Noah and Samantha Scarborough had eight daughters and one son. They were all members of Liberty Hill Primitive Baptist Church. Noah appears to have lived a quiet life in Union Parish LA. He was too old to fight in the War for Southern Independence, and his son was too young. He did have four brothers to serve, however, and his brother Addison B. Scarborough died while fighting for Robert E. Lee in Virginia in 1864. Records show that Noah Scarborough was an active farmer at 72 years of age. He died in late 1881 or 1882 and was buried in the Liberty Hill/Taylor Cemetery. Samantha lived about 20 years longer, at first maintaining their farm, but later living with her children. She died in 1905. *************************** Sources: I wrote this brief biography based upon my own personal research into the Scarborough family, utilizing in particular these sources: +++ the court records of Wilcox Co AL +++ the court records of Union Parish LA +++ US census records +++ National Archives records
