SHILOH CEMETERY near Bernice, Union Parish, Louisiana Submitted for the Union Parish Louisiana USGenWeb Archives by Larry and Mary Anne Williams, 2/19/2005 updated 12/2008 ************************************************ Submitted to the LAGenWeb Archives http:/www.usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ************************************************ Copyright. All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ************************************************ =============================================================================================== Cemetery surveyed by Mary Anne Carroll Williams 12/27/2004 through 2/12/2005 File prepared and contributed by Mary Anne Williams; file formatted by Karen Mabry Rice. =============================================================================================== =============================================================================================== SHILOH CEMETERY is located 4.6 miles east of Bernice, Louisiana on Hwy 2. It is across the road from Shiloh Baptist Church which was organized in 1849. There is a historical marker in front of the church which says: "Two Louisiana governors were born nearby - William W Heard (1900-1904) and Ruffin G Pleasant (1916-1920). The post office was established in 1851 and discontinued in 1906. This was the site of the Concord Institute, a Baptist college from 1877 - 1884. There are many old markers in this cemetery that are nearly faded away or broken and repaired and the repair is done where a date appears, making it hard to decipher. These markers were read to the best of my ability. If I did not get some of these dates or names correct, I apologize in advance and welcome any corrections that anyone may have. Any information too long to include in the miscellaneous info column is noted by number at the bottom of the survey. In "MISC INFO" column, "ho" means husband of, "wo" means wife of, "so" means son of and "do" means daughter of. If there was a veterans marker, it is noted in the MISC INFO with rank and branch of service and where served as shown on the actual marker. "WOW" means that the marker is a Woodmen of the World marker. =========================================================================================================================== NAME NAME NICKNAME/ DATE DATE DATE LAST FIRST MID.
