The petition of James More, a resident of the Parish of Union, state aforesaid and administrator of the Estate of Elijah Ammonett, deceased where as succession has been offered & now in process of settlement in your said court with respect represents unto your honor that the said Elijah Ammonett at his death left the following children issue of his marriage with Martha Ammonett his wife also deceased to wit: Nancy Creeth; Mary Taylor; Andrew J. Armentt, 20 years of age; Julia Ann, thirteen years of age; Withrow, eleven years of age; Elijah Dolsar, 9 years of age; Henrietta, 3 years of age minors and as heirs of the said Elijah Ammonett. They have inherited and became entrusted in their father’s estate which consists in a large amount of lands, slaves & personal property which renders it necessary that your honor to appoint tutors to each of said minors. Wherefore your petitioner prays your honor to cause a family meeting composed of the near neighbors & friends to be convoked for the purpose deliberating and recommend a suitable person or persons to be appointed Tutor to said minors. That your honor also appoint Under Tutor to meet with advise and approve the proceedings of said family meeting and for all further orders and decrees as the nature of the case may require & for general relief &c. The district Judge being absent from the Parish, let the prayer of the Petitioner be granted and it is further ordered that a family meeting composed of Jesse Ammonett, brother, R. J. Bruton, Wm. Baker, Thomas Brantley, John Fellows, D. P. A. Cook,Jutson Green & James Gibson near neighbors & friends atthe residents of Elijah Ammonett, Decd. late of saidParish before Claiborne M. Smith the Parish Recorder onthe 27th day of November AD 1849 together with Jesse M.Ammonett Under Tutor for the purpose of deliberating upon the matters touching the tutorship of the minor children of Elijah Ammonett, deceased to wit Andrew J., James, Charlotte, Juliane, Withrow, Elijah D., Martha Virginia, Henrietta issue of his marriage with Martha Ammonett his wife also decd. and of recommending a suitable person or persons to be appointed tutors to said minors and it is further ordered that said family meeting be convoked, qualified and the proceedings thereof be returned to the office of the Clerk of said court according to law. To the Honorable the Judge of the 12th Judicial District Court in & for the parish of Union, Louisiana. The Petition of James More, a resident of Union Parish and curator of the Estate of Elijah Ammonett, decd., late of said Parish with respect showeth unto your Honor that for the interest of said succession, it will be necessary to sell the boy Wesley, a slave, part and portion of the effects of the said Elijah Ammonett, late deceased as aforesaid. Petitioner represents that they are more debts outstanding against the estate than can be met & paid off by the processes of the formal property lately sold and that the boy Wesley thought lightly valuable in himself is a waste upon the Estate, he being now as for the same time part in the woods. Wherefore petitioner prays that he be authorized by your Honorable court after due advertisements &c to sell the said boy and as in duty bound &c. Bailey & McGill, Attys. State of Louisiana 12th Judicial District Parish of Union Let the prayer of the petitioner be granted and it is ordered that James More, Curator of the Estate of Elijah Ammonett be authorized & empowered to sell the Negro boy Wesley allowing a credit until the first of March requiring 8 percent interest from date retaining a mortgage upon the slave and taking at least one local surety sold to take place in their house suited to the wishes of curator due advertisement being made. To the Honorable the Judge of the 12th District Court in & for the Parish of Union, La. The Petition of James More, a citizen of Union Parish with respect represents unto your Honor that one Elijah Ammonett some time a citizen of the Parish of Union, State of La. in the month of January last part decd. intestate in the Parish of Union leaving a considerable amount of personal & real estate, rights & credits and a number of heirs all of which in your Parish minors. Petitioner alleges that the necessity of an administration of the effects of said succession and that an Inventory be taken [unreadable] orders in such cases and that he be appointed administrator of said Estate after complying with the formalities and requirements of the law & as in duty bound &c. Bailey & McGill Succession of Elijah Ammonett 12th District Court Parish of Union, La. In the above case, it is ordered that Claiborne M. Smith, Parish Recorder [unreadable] to take an Inventory of the effects to be found in the succession of Elijah Ammonett, decd. and that he be authorized to appoint appraisers & make return thereof according to law. The application of William More having been duly advertised for more than ten days & no opposition having been made, it is ordered that he be appointed administrator of the Estate of Elijah Ammonett, decd. after he shall have taken the oath & given bond and security according to law. Smith, Recorder Succession of Elijah Ammonett State of Louisiana 12th district Court Parish of Union Know all men by these presents that we James More as principal and Louis P. Seals & Mihel T. Simmons his securities are held & firmly bound unto Geo. W. Copley, Judge of the 12th District Court in & for the Parish of Union & his successors in office in the sum of twelve thousand eight hundred dollars to the true & faithful payment thereof we bind ourselves, our heirs & our assigns firmly on this the first day of May AD 1849. The condition of the above obligation is such that whereas the said James More has been appointed & confirmed Administrator of the Estate of the said Elijah Ammonett, decd. by the clerk of the said Court & Parish. Now therefore if the said James More shall faithfully perform all and singular the duties appertaining to said appointment & shall render a true and faithful account his administration, his acts & doings as administrator as aforesaid unto the said Judge or his successors in office or to do then the above obligation is to be null & void or else to remain in full force and effect. To the Honorable the Judge of the 12th District Court in & for the parish of union, State of Louisiana. The petition of James Moore, admr. of the Estate & succession of Elijah Ammonett, decd. with respect represents unto your honor that there is some of the personal property belonging to said estate of a perishable nature and subject to & account and that it be to the interest of said Estate that personal property cannot be possibly used on the farm belonging to said estate to be sold. Wherefore petitioner prays your honor to grant him and order authorizing him to sell said property at public sale to be sold on credit until the first of march next (1850) and for general relief as in duty bound &c. James Moore Succession of Elijah Ammonett, Decd. State of Louisiana Parish of Union 12th District Court Let the prayer of the petition be granted and it is further ordered that personal property belonging to said succession be sold at public sale by him on a credit until the 1st March 1850 by the purchasers giving notes with good approved security. State of Louisiana Parish of Union 12th District Court Whereas James Moore has been appointed administrator of the succession of Elijah Ammonett, decd. and hath given bond and taken the oath prescribed by law. Now therefore he is hereby authorized to administer said Estate & perform all the acts appertaining to said appointment according to law.
