G. Andrews was born about 1828 in North Carolina. In 1860, he lived with his wife and family near Union Cross Roads, now Oakland. Andrews worked as a physician that year. He enlisted in the "Sparrow Cadets", a company of men from northwestern Union Parish who volunteered for service in the Confederate Army. This unit became Company I, 31st Regiment Louisiana Infantry in March 1862. The men elected Dr. Andrews as the company's 2nd junior lieutenant. Andrews died at Monroe on 14 August 1862 of "Congestion of the Brain." ================================================================================== ================================================================================== To the Honorable Judge of the 11th Judicial District Court in and for the Parish of Union, Louisiana. The petition of Mary Francis A. Shute, a resident of said Parish now the wife of William C. Masterson a resident of said parish who joins herein to assist and authorize respectfully represents that Edmond G. Andrews, late of said parish departed this life insolvent the 14th of August AD 1862 leaving petitioner a widow in community and two heirs Otis Andrews and Joseph W. Andrews the issue of a marriage between the deceased and petitioner who are both minors. Also, leaving an estate consisting of real and personal property, rights and credits composing the community between deceased and petitioner. Petitioner represents that she is the mother of the only heirs and partner in community entitled to the administration. She therefore prays that an order may issue for Inventory and Appraisement according to law and that she may be appointed Administratrix of same Estate. She further prays that a family meeting be convoked to consult upon the appointment of tutor and under tutor to the minor children, she having forfeited the right of Natural Tutrix by her second marriage. She prays for such other orders and decrees as may be necessary. H. Regenburg, Atty. State of Louisiana 11th Judicial District Court Parish of Union Let the prayer of petitioner be granted and it is ordered and decreed that the within application of Mrs. Mary F. A. Masterson be appointed Administratrix of the Estate of E. G. Andrews, Decd. be advertised according to law. And it is further ordered that Wm. C. Smith, Parish Recorder and Ex Officio Notary Public proceed to make an Inventory and Appraisement of all the property belonging to the said Estate and due return thereof make to this office. And, it is further ordered that a family meeting consisting of the relatives and friends of the minors Otis and Joseph W. Andrews be convoked before W. C. Smith, Recorder &c for the purpose of advising and deliberating upon the matter of approving a Tutor and Under Tutor the said union. Done and signed in office this fifth day of December AD 1866. J. Masterson as principal and Sterling Cooper and Joseph B. Shute as Securities are held and firmly bound unto the Honorable J. D. Watkins, Judge of the Eleventh Judicial Court in and for Union Parish, La. for the time being, or to his successors in Office, in the just and full sum of four thousand ($4000) dollars to the true and full payment thereof we bind ourselves, our heirs, Executors, Administrators and legal representatives, firmly and in solido by these presents. Dated at Farmerville, La. this 18th day of December AD 1866. The condition of this obligation is such that whereas the said Mary F. A. Masterson has been duly and legally appointed and confirmed as Administratrix of the Estate of E. O. G. Andrews, Deceased and she has taken the oath required by law. Now therefore if the said Mary F. A. Masterson shall faithfully and impartially discharge all the duties incumbent on her as Administratrix of the said Estate and shall render to the Judge of the court a true and correct account of her acts and doings in and about said Estate and shall when legally required so to do pay over all sums of money and deliver all the property belonging to the said Estate to the proper person or persons to receive the same, then this obligation to be null and void, otherwise to be and remain in full force according to law. Andrews, Decd. respectfully represents that part of the Estate consists of Personal property subject to waste, deterioration and loss and in part expensive to keep and unproductive to the Estate. She therefore prays for an order of your Honorable court directing the sale of all the personal property of the Estate of Andrews, Decd.
