He married Jane Elizabeth Gilbert about 1854. She was born about 1831 in Lowndes County Alabama, the daughter of Charles Larkin Gilbert and Permelia Taylor. John and Jane Archer had children Louisa A. (born about 1855), John Franklin (born 1859), and Virginia (born about 1863). I believe that John Archer probably died while serving in the Confederate Army, but I have no documentation for his service at this time. ================================================================================= ================================================================================= Union Parish Louisiana Succession Book F, pp. 128 - 131 ================================================================================= ================================================================================= To the Honorable Judge of the 11th Judicial District Court in and for the Parish of union, State of Louisiana. The petition of Henry [Hugh] C. Glasson, a resident of the aforesaid parish, respectfully represents unto your Honor that John Archer, late of same residence departed this life sometime during 186? intestate leaving a widow and several small children, minors and property real and personal. That no Administrator has been appointed to said Estate. That petitioner is the husband of the surviving partner in community of said deceased. That an Administration is necessary. Wherefore, petitioner prays your honor for an order directed to Wm. C. Smith, parish Recorder and Ex Officio Notary Public ordering an inventory of the property of said Estate and that after due advertisement, petitioner be appointed Administrator of said Estate. For all other orders and decrees necessary in the premises and for general relief. R. W. Futch, Atty. Glasson to be appointed Administrator of the Estate of John Archer, Decd. be advertised according to law. It is further ordered that Wm. C. Archer, Decd. late of said residence, that said succession is now in cause of Administrator in Parish aforesaid, that said John Archer, Decd. left the following minor heirs, that said minors have prescribed claim against said succession which makes it necessary that a Tutor be duly appointed to represent them, that their mother forfeited her right as natural Tutrix to said minors by her marriage with your Petitioner. Glasson, administrator of the Succession of John Archer, Deceased and a resident of your State and Parish respectfully represents that the said Estate of John Archer, Deceased is considerably in debt, perhaps insolvent and in order to pay the debts it will be necessary to sell all the property belonging to the Estate. Wherefore the Petitioner prays that an order from your Honorable Court authorizing the petitioner to [unreadable] administrator to proceed to sell after legal advertisement all the property both real and personal belonging to said Estate according to articles of the C. State of Louisiana Parish of Union By virtue of authority vested in me, I Hugh C. Glasson, Administrator of the Estate of John Archer, Decd. have on this 1st day of December AD 1866 offered for sale at public auction to the last and highest bidder having first advertised the same for more than thirty days in the Union Record at the late residence of Jno. Archer, Decd. all the property belonging to the Estate of said Jno. Archer, Decd. Wherefore the following named persons became purchasers, as set forth hereafter. H. C. Glasson bought the place known as the late residence of John Archer, Decd. described as follows: The NE ¼ and ½ of NW ¼ and South ¼ of SE ¼ of Section 17 and 21 R 1 East and North West ¼ of Section 17 T 21 R 1 East containing in all four hundred and eighty (480) acres more or less with all the improvements and thereon belonging at $3.02 per acre $1449.60 Dr. Jeff F. Fuller also bot 1 mule 75.00 Dr. Jeff F. Fuller also bot bull and heifer 12.00 Dr. Jeff F. Fuller also bot lot plowing utensils 2.00 F. H. Cann bot 1 mule 75.00 F. H. Glasson, Administrator of said Estate hereby sell transfer and deliver unto the aforesaid purchasers the above described property as purchased by them respectively with all rights and titles to the same in said Estate vested in the presence of R. To the Honorable Judge of the 11th Judicial District Court holding session in and for the Parish of Union, State of Louisiana. Marcellein Gillis and Samuel Furgerson beg have to file this amendment to their opposition to the homologation of the account of John Archer, Decd. They respectfully object for the further reason that the note of $3146.00 as set forth as due the Estate of W. F. Gilbert was given to the succession of Charles Gilbert, Decd. and is still the property of that Succession. And the note set forth as belonging to the same Estate for $1750.00 the Estate of Wm. F. Gilbert is really the property of the legal representatives of W. F. Gilbert, deceased, but said note was originally given by John Archer, deceased to Henry Archer. The purchase price of Negroes and transferred by the said Henry Archer after maturity to W. F. Gilbert or if transferred before maturity, it was with a full knowledge on his part of the consideration and the consideration having entirely failed by reason of the acts of the United States and of the legislature of Louisiana.
