Baker was a Union Parish physician. Baker was born about 1840 in Georgia. In 1870, he lived in Ward 3, probably in Cherry Ridge, in the household of Dr. William Cleaton Carr. ================================================================================== ================================================================================== Succession of Dr. Elisha H. Baker, Decd. To the Honorable the Parish Judge in and for the Parish of Union and State of Louisiana. The petition of Mary Baker, a resident, widow and relict of D. E. H. Baker, late a resident of your said parish of Union who died at his residence therein on or about the 1st day of November 1872 respectively represents unto your Honorable Court that her said husband left at his death a small Estate composed of land, personal property, rights and credits situated in your said Parish and State, all of which was community property between your petitioner and her said husband, deceased and the following named child Claten Carr Baker, a minor a bout 13 months old. Petitioner avers that there is some debts owing by said Estate and that it became necessary to have an administrator appointed to said Estate in order to pay the debts and take care of the property. Wherefore petitioner prays your Honor cause this her application to be appointed Administratrix of said Estate and the same to be advertised according to law and if there be no legal objection to the same, that your petitioner be appointed Administratrix thereof and further that your Honorable Court order an Inventory and Appraisement to be made of all the property composing of said Estate. Petitioner also prays that there be confirmed and appointed Natural Tutrix of his said minor child Claten Carr Baker, minor, the issue by the marriage with her said Deceased husband and that your Honorable Court also appointed an Under tutor to said minor and for all further orders and decrees in the premises as may be of interest to said Estate and for equitable and general relief in the premises. W. C. Carr Atty. for said Estate Premises considered, it is ordered that the within application of Mrs. Mary Baker to be appointed Administratrix of the Estate of E. H. Baker, deceased be advertised according to law and that W. C. Smith, Recorder & Ex Officio Notary Public make inventory of the property of said succession and due return made to this office and it is further ordered that she be and is hereby confirmed and appointed as Natural Tutrix of her minor child mentioned herein and that W. C. Carr be and is hereby appointed Under Tutor of said minor upon each of them Tutor and Under Tutor taking the oaths prescribed by law. Done and signed in chambers this the 28th day of November 1872. T. B. Tompkins Parish Judge Parish Court of Union Parish By reason that the proper and legal advertisement has been made and no opposition has been made thereto, it is ordered that Mary Baker be and is hereby appointed Administratrix of the Estate of Elisha H. Baker, Decd. and she having taken the oath required by law and given bond with good security. It is therefore ordered that letters of Administration issue to her according to law. Smith, Recorder State of Louisiana Parish of Union Be it remembered that on this the 10th day of January AD 1873, pursuant to an order from the Honorable the Parish Judge in and for the Parish of Union, State of Louisiana duly commissioned and acting and to me William C. Smith, Recorder and Ex Officio Notary Public in and for said Parish directed authorizing and commanding me to make an Inventory and Appraisement of the property, rights and credits belonging to the Estate of E. H. Baker, Decd. late of the Parish and whereas being assisted by James M. Underwood and Robt. W. Futch, males of lawful age who being duly appointed and sworn by me as appraisers and in presence of two competent and lawful witnesses proceeded to make said inventory and appraisement as follows to wit: First, a home and lot situated in the town of Farmerville to wit ten acres of land situated in the North West corner of the North West quarter of the North East quarter of Section thirty one (31) in township twenty one (21) Range one East described as beginning at the North West corner of the NW ¼ of NE 1/4 , Sec. 31 T. 21, R 1 East and running thence East along the section line to East Street thence running South 7 degrees west for enough to enclose the said area of ten (10 acres by running thencewise to the line directing the Section into two halves thence North along said line to the place of beginning. Also Lots No 199 and 192 situated in square No. 12 bounded North by Lot No. 193 East by Main Street South by the Section line and West by Lafayette Street Also a tract of land situated near the Town of Farmerville containing 30 acres more or less described as the North half and the North half of the South half of the North East quarter of the South West quarter of Section 31, T 21, Range 1 East said lots and land with all the improvements situated thereon appraise to be worth in cash twelve hundred dollars 1200.00 List of Notes due the Estate of E. Lewis, Judge of the Parish Court in and for Union Parish, La. and unto his successors in office in the just and full sum of two thousand seven hundred ($2700.00) dollars for the true and faithful payment of which we bind ourselves, our heirs, administrators and legal representatives firmly and in solido by these presents. Dated at Farmerville, La. this 3rd day of January AD 1873. The condition of this obligation are such that whereas the above bounden Mary Baker has this day been duly and legally appointed Administratrix of the Estate of Elisha H. Baker, Deceased and she has taken the oath required by law. Now therefore if the above bounden Mary Baker as principal shall faithfully and impartially discharge and perform all and singular the duties incumbent on her as Administratrix of the aforesaid Estate and shall render to the Judge of the Parish Court aforesaid a full and complete account of all her acts and doings in and about said Estate and shall pay over all sums of money and deliver all the property of whatever nature that she may have in her hands belonging to said Estate to the proper person or persons to receive the same then this obligation to be null and void. Otherwise to be and remain in full force and effect against the principal and her said security. Thus done and signed and acknowledged before me this the day and date above written. J. W.
