Baker & Susan Penelope Mays, Decd., Union Parish Louisiana Union Parish Louisiana Succession Book G, pp. 367 - 370 ================================================================================= ================================================================================= To the Honorable the Judge of the Parish Court of the Parish of Union, State of Louisiana. The petitioner Lorenzo D. Baker, a resident of your aforesaid Parish and State respectfully shows that the following minors to wit: James R. Baker, Wm. J. Baker, Jno. W. Baker, Charles W. Baker, Henry S. Baker, Jno. A. Baker and Susan P. Baker are the issue of the marriage of John W. Baker and Susan Penelope Mays and the sole heirs of their said parents. That both of their parents are dead and they have some property is expected whereupon a Tutor should be appointed. Your petitioner represents that he is their uncle, their father’s brother and is entitled to the Tutorship as being their only male relation of age and residing in the State. Wherefore petitioner prays that this his application be advertised according to law and after the legal delays that he be appointed tutor to the aforesaid minors on his giving bond and complying with all the other requirements of law and he would suggest the appointment of M. E. Daniel as Under tutor for all other orders and decrees necessary in the premises and for general relief. Jno. L. Barrett Atty. for Petitioner Premises considered, it is ordered that the within application of L. D. Baker to be appointed tutor to the minor heirs of the Estate of Jno. W. Baker, decd. be advertised according to law and that W. C. Smith, Recorder make an inventory of the property belonging to said minors and due return thereof make to this office as the law requires. Done and signed in office this 14th day of March AD 1871. T. B. Tompkins Parish Judge Premises considered, it is ordered and decreed that L. D. Baker be and is hereby appointed tutor of the minor heirs of John W. and Susan P. Baker, deceased, he having made oath and given bond as prescribed by law and it is further ordered that M. E. Daniel be appointed Under tutor to the said minors. Done and signed in chambers this 3rd day of April 1871. T. B. Tompkins Parish Judge State of Louisiana Parish of Union I, M. E. Daniel and I, W. H. Manning do solemnly swear that I will faithfully and impartially discharge all and singular the duties incumbent on me as appraisers in making an inventory of the property that may be presented to me belonging to the minor heirs of the Estate of John W. Smith, Recorder State of Louisiana Parish of Union Be it remembered that on this the third day of April AD one thousand eight hundred and seventy one pursuant to an order of the Parish Court in and for the parish of Union, State of Louisiana bearing date March the 14th 1871 and to me William C. Smith, Recorder and Ex Officio Notary Public in and for said Parish directed authorizing and commanding me to make an inventory and appraisement of the property belonging to the minor heirs of the Estate of john W. Baker, Susan P. Baker, decd. and being assisted by M. E. Daniel and Wm. H. Manning, males of lawful age and residing in the Parish of Union who being duly appointed and sworn by me as appraisers proceeded to make said inventory as follows: The only property presented, an Insurance Policy issued on the life of John W. Baker by the Carolina Life Insurance Company of Memphis, Tennessee No. 4004 for the sum of five thousand dollars bearing date April 11th 1870 valued & apprd. to be worth in cash $5000.00 this done and signed in my office in the town of Farmerville on this 3rd day of April AD eighteen hundred and seventy one in presence of Wm. H. Ramsey, William Anderson, witnesses called for the purpose who signed with said appraisers and me, Recorder. ATTEST: W. H. Ramsey M. E. Daniel William Anderson W. H. Manning W. C. Baker do solemnly swear that I will faithfully and impartially discharge all the duties incumbent upon me as Tutor of the following named minor children to wit: James R., Wm. J., Jno. W., Charles W., Henry G., Jno. A., and Susan P. Baker, heirs of the Estate of Jno. W. and Susan P. Baker, deceased according to the best of my ability and understanding. So help me God. L. D. Baker Sworn to and subscribed before me this 3rd day of April AD 1871. J. W. Reid, Clerk Tutorship of the minor heirs of Jno. W. and Susan P. Baker, Decd. State of Louisiana Parish of Union Whereas, Lorenzo D. Baker has been duly and legally appointed tutor of the following minor children to wit: Jas. R., Wm. J., Jno. W., Charles W., Henry S., Jno. A. and Susan P. Baker, heirs of the Estate of Jno. W. and Susan P. Baker, deceased and he has taken the oath prescribed by law. Now therefore the said [blank] is hereby duly and legally authorized and empowered to do and perform all the acts appertaining to the said appointment according to law. Given under my hand and seal of office this 3rd day of April AD 1871. J. W. Reid Clerk, District Court $7500.00 Know all men by these presents that we Lorenzo D. Baker as principal and M. E. Daniel and Wm. Ingram his securities are held and firmly bound unto the Honorable T. B. Tompkins, Judge of the parish Court for the parish of Union, Louisiana and unto his successors in office in the just and full sum of seven thousand five hundred dollars to the true and faithful payment of which we bind ourselves, our heirs, assigns and legal representatives firmly and in solido by these presents. Dated at Farmerville, la. this 3rd day of April AD 1871. The condition of this obligation is such that whereas the above bounden Lorenzo D. Baker ahs been duly and legally appointed and confirmed as Tutor to the following named minor heirs of the Estate of Jno. W. and Susan P. Baker, Decd. to wit: James R. Baker, Wm. J. Baker, Jno. A. Baker, Susan P. Baker, John W. Baker, Charles W. Baker and Henry L. Baker and he has taken the oath required by law. Not therefore if the above bounden Lorenzo D. Baker as principal shall faithfully and impartially discharge all the duties incumbent on him as tutor to the aforesaid minors and shall render to the Judge of the Parish Court of Union Parish, La. a full and complete account of all his acts and doings in and about said Tutorship and shall when legally required so to do pay over to the proper person or person to receive the same all the monies and property belonging to the said minors. Then and in that case this obligation to be null and void. Otherwise to be and remain in full force and virtue against the principal and his said securities.
