The petition of Francis Barns, a resident of your said Parish with respect represents unto you Honor that her Husband Charles Barns departed this life intestate leaving your Petitioner his widow and the following minor children, viz. Joshua, Barbary, Vica, Martha and Francis Barnes issue by his marriage with your petitioner besides a small portion of personal property which your Honor has caused an inventory and appraisement to be made. Wherefore your petitioner wishes to be confirmed as Natural Tutrix to her children minors and your appoint some person to sell said property and apply it to the payment of the debts of said Estate and for general relief as in duty bound. Your petitioner ever prays &c. Francis (her X mark) Barns Let the prayer of the petitioner be granted and it is further ordered that she be appointed Administratrix and confirmed as Natural Tutrix to her said minor children and settle up the Estate in a summary manner and that J. John Taylor Parish Judge State of Louisiana Parish of Union Be it remembered that on this the 9th day of December AD 1844 that I John Taylor, Parish Judge and Ex Officio Notary Public in and for Parish and State having received information of the death of Charles Burns who departed this life intestate in said Parish on the 27th day of October 1844 leaving his widow relict Francis Burns and the following minor heirs issue by his marriage with the said Francis, to wit: Joshua aged about 17, Barbary aged about 14 years, Vicy aged about 12 years, Martha aged about 6 years, Francis aged about 18 months and besides leaving a small amount of personal property rights and credits and for the purpose of making an inventory and appraisement of all the property comprising said Estate. I have at my office in the Parish of Union for the purpose as aforesaid appointed Irvin J. Bradly and Tantin Jones residents of said parish to appraise said decedents Estate and when after being well and duly sworn by me the said Judge well and truly to do and perform all and singular the matters and things herein proceeded as follows together with the widow who gave in the property and me Judge in presence of the undersigned witnesses. Inventory Appraisement 1 wagon worth $50.00 2 two years old fillies worth 20 each 40.00 1 sorrel horse Glandered 10.00 4 head of sheep $2 per head 8.00 Farming tools worth ___5.00 $103.00 One note A. H. Sims for sixteen dollars with a credit of five dollars One note on Samuel Griffin for twenty three dollars to be paid when he collect two hundred dollars from Daniel Colvin. Considered bad debts One spinning machine in hands of third person if it can be got amounting to one hundred and three dollars. In testimony whereof appraisers have signed their names in presence of J. M. Now therefore she is hereby authorized and fully empowered to discharge and perform all and singular the duties appertaining to the said appointment according to Law. In testimony whereof, I have hereunto signed my name and affixed my seal of office on this 10th day of December AD 1844.
