As a infant, Barron moved with his parents from Wilkes west into the newly-created Hancock County, where James grew up. His father bought a 200-acre farm on Town & Island Creek where they remained until about 1808 or 1809. At that time, James' father John joined the westward migration into the old Creek Indian lands that had been dispersed to settlers via the 1805 Georgia Land Lottery. John Barron bought a 202.5 acre farm in Jones County in 1810 and settled his family there. John gave most of the property to his eldest sons, including James, in 1813. During the War of 1812, James Barron served with several of his brothers in the Georgia Militia. James Barron married Sarah Miles (c1796 - after 1870) on 25 March 1816 in Jasper County Georgia. They lived in Jones County for a few years, but in about 1819 they left Georgia with his sister, Nancy Barron Callaway, and her family and moved to Alabama Territory. They settled in the region that is now bisected by the Lowndes/Dallas County line. In the early 1840s, James Barron left Alabama and moved to north/central Union Parish Louisiana, settling near what was then called Union Cross Roads, now Oakland, just south of the Arkansas/Louisiana state line. On 21 November 1846, James and Sarah Barron joined Good Hope Primitive Baptist Church by letter. Good Hope was located just across the state line in Union County Arkansas. It had been formed earlier that year on May 23rd. The seventeen members of the church participated in their first communion and foot washing one month after the Barrons' joining, on December 27th. Records of the church show that James Barron was one of the earliest deacons of Good Hope. Several of James Barron's sons served in the Confederate military during the War Between the States. Following James' death in 1867, most all of his family left Union Parish and moved west, eventually settling in Texas. By 1870, the only folks carrying the Barron surname in Union Parish were descendents of James' younger brother, Henry Barron, who had joined his brother in Union Parish in 1852. In 1870, Sarah lived with her daughter Nancy and son James H. M. Barron in Sebastian County Arkansas, near Fort Smith. Family tradition claims that she joined other children who had moved to Brazos County Texas in the 1870s, and that she died there before 1880. ================================================================================= ================================================================================= Transcription of Union Parish Louisiana Succession Book G, pp. 47 - 57 begins here: ================================================================================= ================================================================================= Estate of James Barron, Decd.
