The petition of William H. Carson, a resident of said Parish, respectfully shows that Petitioner is the Under Tutor of the minor Martha Virginia Bayless, of same Parish. That said minor is now without a tutor. Her tutor, Thomas L. Thompson, having departed this life sometime during the past year. Wherefore, Petitioner prays for an order from your Honorable Court convoking a family meeting for the purpose of recommending a suitable person to receive the appointment of Tutor to said minor and for all orders and decrees necessary and for general relief. Smith, Parish Recorder &c do convoke a family meeting for the purpose of appointing a tutor for the minor Virginia Bayless as prayed for in the within petition. Said family meeting to be comprised of B. F. Dillard, W. A. McFarland, R. C. Fox, Pinkney Odom and Jno. L. Barrett, relatives and friends of the said minor and due return thereof make according to law. Done and signed in office this 16th of November 1863. J. L. Guthrie, Clerk State of Louisiana Parish of Union Do you and each of you solemnly swear that you will faithfully and impartially perform all and singular the duties incumbent on you as members of a family meeting convoked for the purpose of recommending a suitable person to be appointed Tutor to the minor Virginia Bayless to the best of your judgment. Smith, Parish Recorder State of Louisiana Parish of Union Be it known that on this the 19th day of November AD 1863, In pursuance of an order issued from the Honorable the 11th Judicial District Court in and for said Parish and to me William C. Smith, Parish Recorder and Ex Officio Notary Public in and for the Parish and State aforesaid directed I caused to come before me at my office in the town of Farmerville the following [unreadable] citizens of the Parish of Union to wit: B. F. Dillard, Jno. L. Barrett, William McFarland, Pinkney Odom and R. C. Fox convoked as a family meeting for the purpose of recommending a suitable man to be appointed tutor for the minor Virginia Bayless. They being friends of said minor. Said members being first duly sworn proceeded to take under advisement the subject matter as above set forth and after mature deliberation they advise and recommend that Robert W. Futch be appointed Tutor for said minor Virginia Bayless on giving bond and taking the oath according to law. Thus done and passed in my office in the town of Farmerville on this the day and date above written in presence of W. D. M. Bruton and D. Barrett State of Louisiana 11th District Court Parish of Union The premises considered, it is ordered, adjudged and decreed that the within and foregoing proceedings be homolgated and that Robert W. Futch be and he is hereby appointed tutor to the minor Virginia Bayless in his giving bond and taking the oath according to law. Done and signed in office on this the 24th day of November 1863. J. L. Futch, do solemnly swear that I will faithfully and impartially discharge all and singular the duties incumbant on me as Tutor to the minor Virginia Bayless according to the best of my ability and understanding. Futch has this day been duly and legally appointed Tutor to the minor Virginia Bayless and he has given bond with good and sufficient security and taken the oath prescribed by law. Now therefore the said R. W. Futch is hereby duly and legally authorized to do and perform all the acts appertaining to said appointment according to law.
