To the Honorable the Judge of the Parish Court in and for Union Parish, State of Louisiana. The petition of Elizabeth A. Betterton, a resident of your said Parish and State with respect represents that her husband Nathan Betterton, late a resident of the said Parish and State departed this life on or about the 13th of July 1868 intestate leaving a single Estate consisting of real and personal property, rights and credits. Also leaving your petitioner, his surviving spouse and partner in community and five minor children to wit: Caroline L. Betterton, Paletine B. Betterton, Elizabeth Betterton, Wm. Leslie Betterton, and Henry W. Betterton. Petitioner represents that an administration of the said Estate is necessary and as surviving partner in community, she has the right of administering. Wherefore she prays that this her application be advertised according to law, that W. C. Smith, Parish Recorder and Ex Officio Notary Public be authorized to make an Inventory and Appraisement of all the property belonging to the Estate, and after all legal delays, she be appointed and confirmed as Administratrix of the said Estate of Nathan Betterton, decd. for all further orders and decrees necessary in the premises and general relief &c. Betterton to be appointed Administratrix of the Estate of Nathan Betterton, decd. advertised according to law and further, Parish Recorder & Ex Officio Notary Public be and he is hereby authorized to make an Inventory and Appraisement of all the property belonging to the Estate and due return thereof make to this office. Doty as security are held and firmly bound unto the Honorable T. B. Tompkins, Judge of the parish court in and for Union Parish, La. for the time being, or to his successors in office, in the just and full sum of eight hundred dollars, to the true and full payment thereof we bind ourselves, our heirs, executors, administrators and legal representatives firmly and in solido by these presents. Dated at Farmerville, Louisiana this 24th day of October AD 1868. The condition of the above obligations are such that whereas the said Elizabeth A. Betterton has been duly and legally appointed and confirmed as Administratrix of the Estate of Nathan Betterton, deceased and she has taken the oath required by law. Now therefore if the said Elizabeth Betterton shall faithfully and impartially discharge all the duties incumbent on her as Administratrix of the said Estate and shall render to the Judge of said Court a true and correct account of all her acts and doings in and about said Estate and shall when legally required so to do, pay over all sums of money and deliver all the property belonging to the said Estate to the proper person or persons to received the same, then this obligation to be null and void. Reid, Clerk State of Louisiana Parish Court Parish of Union Whereas, Eleizabeth Betterton has been duly and legally appointed Administratrix of the Estate of Nathan Betterton, Deceased and she has given bond with good security and has taken the oath prescribed by law. Now, therefore, the said Elizabeth Betterton is hereby duly and legally authorized and empowered to do and perform all the acts appertaining to the said appointment according to law. In the matter of the homologation of the final account filed by Elizabeth Betterton, Administratrix of the Estate of N. Betterton, Decd. 1st Vouchers with said final account 2nd J. W. Reid, Clerk of the Parish Court sworn says he was acting as Clerk of said Court in October last. That said account was filed on the 20th day of October 1868 and has been advertised for more than ten days prior to this date by publication in a weekly newspaper published in said parish called the Union Record and by posting at the door of the Court House in the town of Farmerville in said Parish and that no opposition has been filed to the homologating of the same. The Administratrix charges herself with the amount of the Inventory of said Estate taken by W. C. Smith, Recorder and filed in the clerk’s office on the 12th October 1868 amounting to $638.82 The Administratrix credits for the following privileged claims against said Estate which she has paid. Lewis, Atty, See voucher No. 4 15.00 Admx. commission 2 ½% of Inventory 15.97 To the Honorable the Judge of the Parish Court in and for the Parish of Union, State of Louisiana. The petition of Elizabeth A. Betterton, a resident of the Parish and State above written with respect represents that she was approved and confirmed by your Honorable Court as administratrix of the Estate of Nathan Betterton, late of said Parish, that she has administered said Estate and herewith files her final account as Administratrix. Petitioner represents that in the foregoing account she has charged herself with the amount of the Inventory of said Estate viz. $638.67/100 and credited herself with the amount of the privileged claims which she has paid viz. $60.22/100 leaving in her hands the sum of $57.10/100 which paid amount, she has returned and applied toward the payment of the one thousand dollars claim due the widow and orphans of the Deceased to which they are [blank] under account of [blank]. Wherefore she prays that this her final account be duly advertised and homologated, that her bond as Administratrix be cancelled and released from all responsibilities in the premises. State of Louisiana In the Parish Court Parish of Union By reason of the law and the evidence in this case and by further reason of due notice of the filing of the within final account of Mrs. Elizabeth A. Betterton, Admx. of the Estate of Nathan Betterton, Decd. having been made by publication in a weekly newspaper for more than ten days prior to this date and there having been no opposition filed to the homologation of the same, it is hereby order, adjudged and decreed that the suit final balance be approved and homologated and that the bond of Mrs. E. A. Betterton, Administratrix aforesaid be canceled and she released from responsibility in the premises. Done, read and signed in open court this 11th day of November AD 1868. T. B.
