This company officialy entered the service of the Confederate states on 14 May 1862 at Monroe, and was designated as Company H, 31st Louisiana Infantry Regiment. Linear as born in Union Parish and was aged 25 and a farmer when he enlisted. His enlistment officer reported that he had a light complexion, blue eyes, dark hair, and stook 6' 1.5" tall. He was furloughed due his home in Union Parish due to disease and died there on 10 September 1862. He was never paid for his service, but his widow was paid what was due Linear. He married Martha Jane Dick in Union County Arkansas on 20 January 1857. Linear was the son of Powhatan Boatright (1790-1880), a native of Virginia, veteran of the U.S. Army during the War of 1812 and an officer in the the Arkansas Territorial Militia in the early 1820s. Powhatan Boatright had settled in Claiborne Parish in the mid-1820s, and then about 1835 became one of the earliest permanent settlers of the northern portion of Union Parish. He lived in the region that contains the modern location of the Zion Hill Baptist Church between Farmerville and Spearsville. ================================================================================== To the Honorable the Judge of the 11th Judicial District Court in and for the Parish of Union, Louisiana. The petition of Martha Jane Dick, a resident of said Parish respectfully represents unto your honor that Lenier Boatwright, her husband, lately departed this live in this parish on or about the 10th day of September AD 1862 leaving petitioner a widow and three minor children to wit: Mary F., Sarah Jane and Jessie Boatwright and a small estate consisting of land, horses, stock and other personal property, also some debts outstanding. Petitioner represents that she and her minor children own no property except their claims on said estate and that therefore she is a privileged creditor of the said estate to the amount of one thousand dollars and that the whole estate will not amount to over that sum. She prays to be recognized and appointed Natural Tutrix of her said minor children who are the only heirs of the said deceased and that they may be recognized as such. She further prays that an inventory and appraisement may be had according to law and that she be authorized to take possession of the same in the right the law grants to her and her children and for such other orders and decrees as the petition as the case requires and for general relief. State of Louisiana 12th Judicial District Court Parish of Union The premises considered, it is ordered and decreed that Martha Jane Dick Boatright be and she is hereby confirmed and appointed Natural Tutrix to her minor children to wit: Mary F., Sarah Jane and Jessie Boatright and upon taking the oath presented by law that letters of Tutorship do issue. It is further ordered and decreed that the Recorder of the Parish of Union be authorized to make an inventory and appraisement of all the property both real and personal belonging to the Estate and succession of Lenier Boatright, Decd. and due return thereof make to this office without delay. Done and signed in office on this the 14th day of November AD 1862. W. C. Smith, Deputy Clerk State of Louisiana Parish of Union Personally came and appeared before me the undersigned Justice of the Peace in and for the aforesaid Parish and State, Mrs. Martha Jane Boatright who after being duly sworn by me deposed and said that she will to the best of her ability discharge the duties incumbent on her as Tutrix of her minor children viz. Smith, Parish Recorder State of Louisiana Parish of Union Be it remembered that on this the 19th day of November AD One Thousand Eight Hundred and Sixty two in pursuance of an order of the Honorable 11th District Court in and for said Parish and state I William C. Smith, Parish Recorder and Ex Officio Notary Public in and for the Parish and State did proceed to make an inventory and appraisement of the Property belonging to the Estate of Lenier Boatright, Decd. late of the Parish of Union (being assisted by Riley Agerton and E. J. Lee, two lawful citizens of the Parish and State aforesaid who being duly appointed and sworn by me as appraisers) as follow to wit: A tract of land situated in the Parish of Union known as the late residence of the said L. Boatright, Decd. Numbers as follows viz. The South West quarter of Sec. 5 Township 21 Range one West containing one hundred and sixty acres more or less. Appraised at four dollars per acre $640.00 1 Gray Horse bay 7 years old apprd. @ 75.00 1 Gray Horse bay 8 years old apprd. @ 80.00 1 Lot Pork hogs 8 in number apprd. @ 110.00 1 Lot stock hogs 5 in number apprd. @ 45.00 1 Lot stock hogs 10 in number apprd. @ 50.00 4 Cows and calves apprd. @ 80.00 1 Rifle Gun apprd. @ 12.00 4 Chairs apprd. @ 3.00 1 Bed and bedstead apprd. @ 20.00 Pair plow geer apprd. @ 1.50 1 Lot farming utensils apprd. @ 6.00 1 Lot Cooking utensils apprd. @ 7.50 Bee hives apprd. @ ____7.50 Total amount $1099.50 Having completed the foregoing inventory, I have closed the same, In testimony whereof I have caused said appraisers to sign their names hereto in the presence of the undersigned lawful witnesses and in the said Recorder on this the 19th day of November AD 1862.
