He enlisted in May 1862 with the rest of the regiment at Monroe. He was a native of Connecuh County Alabama, aged 31 at enlistment, and a farmer. His enlistment officer reported that he had blue eyes, auburn hair, a florid complexion, and was 5' 8.75" in height. The record below indicates that he died the day after the surrender at Vicksburg, on 5 July 1863. ================================================================================== To the Honorable the Judge of the 11th Judicial District Court in and for the Parish of Union, Louisiana The petition of Hiram Brewster, a resident of said Parish respectfully represents that William Brewster, late of said Parish departed this life at Vicksburg on or about the 5th day of July AD 1863 leaving three minor heirs to wit: William W., James M. and Elizabeth Brewster, all the issue of a marriage between deceased and Elizabeth Taylor, also Decd. his wife. Petitioner represents that as the paternal Grandfather he is entitled to the tutorship and in consequence to the Administration of said Estate. He therefore prays that there may be an inventory and appraisement of the Estate left by said decd. and that after due proceedings had, he be appointed Administrator of said Estate and natural tutor to said children. He further prays for such other orders and decrees as may be necessary. H. Regenburg, Atty. It is ordered that the within petition be granted and advertised according to law, further that W. C. Smith, Parish Recorder make an Inventory of said Estate of William Brewster according to law. Done and signed in office this 9th of November 1863. J. L. State of Louisiana 11th Judicial District Court Parish of Union Whereas Hiram Brewster has been duly and legally appointed Administrator of the Estate of Wm. Brewster, Decd. and he has given bond and good Security and taken the oath prescribed by law. Now therefore the said Hiram Brewster is hereby duly and legally authorized and empowered to discharge all the acts appertaining to said appointment according to law. Norris as his security are held and firmly bound unto W. B. Egan, Judge of the said Court in and for the Parish and State aforesaid in the full and just sum of Eight Thousand Seven hundred Dollars ($8700.00) to the true and faithful payment whereof we bind ourselves, our heirs, assigns, executors, and legal representatives firmly by these presents. Dated at Farmerville, La. 18th day of November AD 1863. The condition of the above obligation is such that whereas the above bounden Hiram Brewster has been appointed Administrator of the Estate of William Brewster, Decd. Now, therefore if the said Hiram Brewster shall well and faithfully discharge all the duties incumbent on him as Administrator of said Estate and shall render to the Judge of said court a true and prompt return of all his acts and doings in and about said Estate and shall whenever legally required so to do pay over all sums of money or other property belonging to said Estate to the proper person or persons to receive the same. Then an in that case the above obligation is null and void. Otherwise, to remain in full force and virtue against the principal and his said security. Hiram Brewster W. S. All purchasers having complied with the conditions of the same, except J. C. Mayes who bought one cow at $45.00 which ducted from the amount $4949.37, leaves in petitioners hands funds of the Estate amounting to $4904.37 say forty nine hundred and four 37/100 Dollars.
