Brown died in the service of the Confederate States of America, sometime in the year 1864. However, the name of Walter W. Brown does not show up on the rosters of any known Confederate military unit from Union Parish. ================================================================================= ================================================================================= ================================================================================= ================================================================================= Union Parish Louisiana Succession Book F, pp. 132 - 135 ================================================================================= ================================================================================= To the Honorable Judge of the 11th Judicial District Court in and for Union Parish, La. The petition of Benjamin Ford, a resident of the Parish and State above written respectfully represents that Walter W. Brown, late of your said Parish and State departed this life while in the service of the Confederate States, sometime during the year 1864 leaving a small estate consisting of real and personal property. Petitioner represents that he is a creditor of the said Estate and that an Administration is necessary. Wherefore he prays that after due and legal proceedings and delays that he be appointed Administrator of said Estate. That an Inventory and Appraisement be had according to law and for all other orders and decrees necessary in the premises and for general relief &c. Benjamin Ford State of Louisiana 11th Judicial District Court Parish of Union It is ordered that the above application of Benjamin Ford to be appointed Administrator of the Estate of Walter W. Brown, Decd. be advertised according to law. It is further ordered that William C. Smith, Parish Recorder &c be and he is hereby authorized to make an inventory and Appraisement of all the property belonging to the said Estate and due return thereof make to this office. Smith, Recorder &c in and for said Parish directed commanding me to make an inventory and appraisement of the property belonging to the Estate of Walter W. Brown, Deceased, late of the Parish of Union and being assisted by Thomas J. Elliot and James C. Dawson, two lawful citizens of said Parish who being appointed and sworn by me as appraisers proceeded to make an inventory and appraisement of said Estate as herein after set forth. Property pointed out by Benjamin Ford. 1st a tract of land situated in the Parish of Union, La. numbered as follows: the NE ¼ of NE ¼ of S 31 and NW ¼ of NW ¼ of S 32 T21 R3 East the SE ¼ of SE ¼ S 30 SE 1/14 of NE ¼ of S 31 and SW ¼ of NW ¼ S 32 T21 Range 3 East containing in all 200 acres more or less with the improvements thereon apprd. @ .75 cts. per acre amounting to one hundred and fifty dollars $150.00 Done and signed in my office in the Town of Farmerville in the presence of George A. Ford has been duly and legally appointed and confirmed as Administrator of the Estate of Walter w. Brown, Decd. and has given bond with good security and has taken the oath prescribed by law. Now therefore the said Benjamin ford is hereby duly and legally authorized and empowered to do and perform all acts appertaining to said appointment according to law. Smith as his security are held and firmly bound unto Honorable J. D. Watkins, Judge of the 11th Judicial District court for the time being or to his successors in office in the just and full sum of Two Hundred Dollars to the true and faithful payment whereof well and truly to be made we bind ourselves, our heirs, assigns and legal representatives firmly by these presents. Dated at Farmerville, La. this 7th day of March AD 1866. The consideration of this obligation is such that whereas the said Benjamin ford has been duly and legally appointed Administrator of the Estate of Walter W. Brown, Decd. and he has taken the oath prescribed by law. Now, therefore if the said Benjamin Ford shall faithfully and impartially discharge all and singular the duties incumbent on him as Administrator of said Estate and shall render to the Judge of said court a true and correct account of all his acts and doings in and about said Estate and shall whenever legally required so to do pay over all sums of money and deliver all the property of whatever nature in his hands belonging to the Estate to the proper person or persons to receive the same, then this obligation to be null and void. Otherwise to be and remain in full force and virtue against the principal and his said security. Done, signed and acknowledged on this the day and dateabove written. ATTEST: Benjm. Ford Thos. C. Lewis, Clerk Wm. C. Smith To the Honorable the Judge or the Clerk of the 11th Judicial District Court and for the Parish of Union, La. The petition of Benj. Ford, Administrator of the Estate of Walter w. Brown, Decd. respectfully shows that the said Estate is insolvent. That there is an outstanding debt to a greater amount than the appraisement of said Estate. That the creditors demand the sale of the property of said Estate for cash. That said sale is necessary immediately. Wherefore he prays that your Honorable Court grant an order to petitioner to make the said sale for cash in accordance with law in such cases made and provided for all orders and decrees necessary in the premises and for general relief &c. State of Louisiana 11th Judicial District Court Parish of Union It is ordered and decreed that the prayer of the above petitioner be granted and that all the property belonging to the Estate of Walter W. Brown, Decd. be sold in accordance with Article 990, 991 and 992 of the Code of Practice regulating such sale. It is further ordered that Benjamin Ford, the Administrator of said Estate, be and he is hereby authorized to make the said sale and due return thereof according to law. Lewis Clerk, District Court State of Louisiana Parish of Union In pursuance of an order from the 11th Judicial District Court in and for the Parish of Union, I have offered for sale at public auction after giving thirty days notice in a newspaper published at Farmerville on this the 10th day of April AD 1866 between the hours of 11AM and 3 Oclock PM at the late residence of Walter W. Brown, Decd. all the property belonging to the Estate of the said Brown to wit: The North East ¼ of North East ¼ Section 31 also North West ¼ of North West ¼ of Sec. 32 also South East ¼ of South East ¼ Sec. 20 also South East ¼ of North East ¼ Section 31 also South West ¼ of North West ¼ Section 32 all of Township 21 Range 3 East containing in all together two hundred acres. E. D. Ford became the purchaser, he being the last and highest bidder for the sum of seventy five cents per acre. Brown respectfully shows to the Honorable the 11th Judicial District Court in and for the Parish of u8nion, State of Louisiana, that he has completed the Administration of said Estate and that he has herewith filed a complete statement of debts and Tableau of Distribution the total assets of the Estate is $150.00, the privileged debts $60.75 and the distribution show to pay on the ordinary debts is 7 cents and 6 mills on the dollar. Wherefore he prays that this his account statement of debts and Tableau of Distribution be advertised according to law and after the legal delays the same be approved and homologated and that petitioner be ordered to pay in accordance therewith the privileged claims in full and on the ordinary debts. 077 on the dollar on the debts therein stated and that his bond as Administrator be canceled and for general relief &c. Reid, Clerk State of Louisiana 11th District Court Parish of Union By reason of the Law and the evidence and by further reason of the proper and legal advertisement having been made for more than thirty days prior to this date and no opposition having been filed , it is ordered, adjudged and decreed that the within account filed by Benj. Ford as Admr. of the Estate of W. W. Brown, Decd. be and the same is hereby allowed, approved and homologated in all its parts according to law. Reid Clerk, District Court State of Louisiana Parish of Union In the matter of the homologation of the account and statement of debts filed by Benj. Ford as Admr. of the Estate of Walter W. Brown, Decd. 1st Vouchers filed with said account 2nd Jas. W. Reid, Clerk of District Court sworn states that he was acting clerk of said court in July last and that said account was filed on the first day of July 1867 and has been advertised for more than thirty days prior to this date and no opposition has been filed thereto, by posting at the door of the Courthouse and by handing three copies of said advertisement to the Sheriff of said Parish at two public places in the Parish 3rd W. W. Guthrie, Sheriff sworn states that he posted the said advertisements at forks of road near Spearsville and at Cherry Ridge. J. W.
