He moved to what is now Union Parish Louisiana in the 1830s and became quite active in the early affairs of the new Parish of Union. The petition of Wm. C. Carr, a resident of your said Parish with respect represents unto your Honor that his brother Allen Carr, late of said Parish departed this life intestate on or about the fifteenth of April last (1844) leaving the following minor children to wit: Allen Carr, aged about seventeen and Sarah Carr, aged about 14 years besides a considerable Estate real and personal rights and credits lands and tenements. Whereof your Honor has caused an Inventory to be made. Your petitioner wishes to be appointed the Administrator of his brother’s Estate and Tutor of said minors and that your Honor appoint an Under tutor and for such other and further relief as the nature of the case may require as in duty bound your petitioner ever prays. Carr, do solemnly swear that I will to the best of my abilities, understanding discharge and perform all and singular the duties incumbent on me as administrator of the Estate of Allen Carr, deceased and as Tutor to Allen Carr and Sarah Carr, minor children of said deceased to the best of my abilities. Carr, a resident of your said Parish and State, Administrator of the estate and Succession of Allen Carr, late of your said Parish deceased with due respect represents unto your Honor that there is a considerable quantity of personal property consisting of cattle, horses, wagons, oxen, farming tools with other personal property belonging to said Estate, all of which is subject to destruction and waste and expensive to keep. Therefore your petitioner prays your Honor to decree a sale of all the said personal property belonging to the said succession on such terms of credit or for cash as will be most advantageous to the said Succession and for all such orders and decrees as may become necessary and for general relief in the premises. Carr State of Louisiana Parish of Union Let the prayer of the petitioner be granted and it is further ordered all the personal property belonging to said Estate be sold, sums under ten dollars cash, over ten a credit until the first March next. C. Carr, Tutor for Allen Carr amount to $3976.47 Leaving a balance in favor of E. B. winds, husband of Sarah Carr of 165.22 And farther we find about one hundred head of hogs more or less running in the range, which we set apart to be equally divided between the heirs, which we value at $8 per head also 30 head of cattle set apart as above baled @ $5 per head.
