Bayless (27 Mar 1812 - 8 Oct 1857) and James H. Carson (1809 - 23 Sept 1859) during the 1850s and perhaps 1840s. Both merchants were buried in the Farmerville Cemetery. ================================================================================= Union Parish Louisiana Succession Book E, pp. 138 - 144 Sale of the Property Belonging to the Firm of Carson & Bayless ================================================================================= State of Louisiana Parish of Union Be it remembered that pursuant to an order of the 12th Judicial District Court in and for said Parish and State Authorising the sale of all the property both real & Personal of the late firm of Carson & Bayless the real property to be sold in a credit of 12 mos. Purchasers giving their notes with approved security bearing eight percent interest from date with a special mortgage and vendors privilege retained on the said property to secure the payment of the price of the same and the [unreadable] and Personal property to be sold for cash having advertised the said sale by publishing the same for more than thirty days prior to the day of sale in the Union Democrat a newspaper published in the said Parish of Union on Monday November 28th 1859 before the courthouse door in the Town of Farmerville in the Parish of Union. Having caused the aforesaid advertisement to be proclaimed aloud (a copy of which advertisement is hereto annexed) and having also proclaimed above the terms of sale and having specially announced that the merchandise to wit: Joe John Washington Lewis Edmond Wallace were not warranted as to vice of character to wit: stealing and [unreadable]. Mr. John L. Barrett Adm. and Nancy D. Bayless Admx. decd heir & there offer for sale at Public auction to the last and highest bidder the following described property to them after [unreadable]. The same find sufficient length of time the following persons being the last & highest bidders became purchasers of the same as follows: William A. Glasson became the purchaser of the boy Wallace aged 33 year of copper color for the sum of One thousand & one Dollars 1001.00 Also one cow & Calf ___20.00 1021.00 James W. Underwood became the purchaser of the boy John of Dark complection aged 21 for the sum of Fifteen Hundred & thirty Dollars 1530.00 Also of the boy Joe of Dark complection aged 28 for the sum of Sixteen Hundred Dollars 1600.00 Also 1 Lot of Plows ___30.00 3133.00 J. R. Thompson became the purchaser of the Boy Washington aged 28 of Dark complection for the sum of fifteen Hundred & Twenty five Dollars 1535.00 John West became the purchaser of the Boy Edmond of dark complection aged 32 for the sum of One thousand & Twenty six Dollars 1026.00 Moses S. Carson became the purchaser of the Girl Rachel of Dark color aged 56 years For the sum of nine hundred & Twenty five Dollars 925.00 Cullen Edwards became the purchaser of the Girl Caroline of Dark color aged 38 Years for the sum of Five Hundred & Thirty one Dollars 531.00 David M. C. Mayes tract of Thus described thus S ½ of SW ¼ of Sec 4 T 20 N of R 2 west 80 acres more or less being & lying in the Parish aforesaid for Two Hundred & fifty Dollars 250.00 Archibald Carmichael became the purchaser of the Rachel Goodman tract of Land thus described No ¼ of sec 12 T 21 N or R 3 West containing 155 ½ 19/100 acres according surbey and being and lying in the Parish of Union aforesaid for the sum of Five Hundred Dollars & ninety five Dollars 395.00 James Jones became the purchaser of the J. R. Goyne tract of Land theer described the E½ of NE¼ of sec 14 T21N of R_West containing 80 acres more or less being and lying in the Parish of Union aforesaid for One Hundred & Twenty Dollars 120.00 N. H. We have adjudicated sold transferred and delivered by the authority in us vested as administrators and by that authority we do by these presents adjudicate sell and bargain and deliver to each and all of the aforesaid purchasers their heirs successors or assigns for ever to have and to hold the same for their own special interest & behalf in each the property purchased by him as herein before set forth in testimony whereof we have signed our names in our aforesaid capacity on this the 1st day of March 1860 in presence of H. M. Barrett & Thos. C. Lewis good & in lawful witnesses specially called for this purpose to this process verbal reserving at the same time on each & every of the real property a special mortgage and vendors privilege according to Law. The said property to be & remain subject to said mortgage & privilege unitil the full & entire payment of the price if the sum as herein before set forth together with all Interest & cost that shall come upon the said price & in the collection thereof. Lewis State of Louisiana Parish of Union Be it remembered that pursuant to an order of the 12th Judicial District Court in & for the Parish & State above written authorising a sale of all of the property of the late firm of Carson & Bayless the real property in a credit of 12 months and the personal property for cash. We, Nancy D. Bayless administratrix of the estate of Jno. A. Bayless, Decd. and Jno. L. Barrett Adm. Of the Estate of James H. Carson, Decd. the legal representative of said estates. Having advertised the said sale according to Law by publishing the same in the Union Democrat, a newspaper published in the town of Farmerville, La. for more than thirty days to wit: from Novr. 30th AD 1859 to Jany 7th 1860 when having read aloud the said advertisement and publicly proclaimed the terms of sale as follows for personal property all sums of five dollars & under cash. All sums over five dollars in a credit till March 1, 1860 and the real property on a credit of 12 months. All purchasers giving their notes with approved security bearing eight percent Interest from date with a specially mortgage & vendors privilege reserved on the real property to secure the payment of the price of the same on the 7th day of January 1860 in Farmerville between the legal hours of sale.
