The petition of George W. Clayton, a resident of your said Parish of Union and State aforesaid with respect represents that he is the surviving husband of Martha Clayton, Decd. who departed this life in said Parish of Union on or about the 20th day of August 1861 dying intestate and leaving certain rights and credits an issue from a community of [unreadable] and again between petitioner and his deceased wife. Petitioner further avers that deceased left six heirs, the issue of the marriage with petitioner to wit: John, Sarah Ann, wife of David Drew, Mary Frances, wife of L. C. Branch and Richard H., Joseph and Susan minors. Petitioner avers that deceased was contractive during the marriage and not departed at the time of its [unreadable], and further that an administration is necessary. Petitioner prays your Honorable Court to cause an Inventory and Appraisement of said Martha Clayton [unreadable] situated in your said Parish of Union, State of Louisiana to be made and further that his application for the Administration of said Estate be advertised according to law and that your petitioner be appointed Administrator upon giving the bond and taking the oath required by law and for all such orders and decrees in the premises as the nature of this case may require. And as in duly bound will empray[sic] &c. J. C. Trimble, Atty. State of Louisiana 11th District Court Parish of Union Let the pray of petitioner be granted and it is ordered that the within application of George W. Clayton be appointed Administrator of the Estate of Martha Clayton, Decd. be advertised according to law. And it is further ordered that w. C. Smith, Parish Recorder & Ex Officio Notary Public proceed to make an Inventory and Appraisement of all the property belonging to the said Estate and due return thereof make to this office.
