The petition of Sarah C. Absent, widow of Anderson Cobriea, Decd. of said Parish respectfully represents that her said husband departed this life on or about the 1st November AD 1862. He then being absent in the service of the Confederate States, leaving petitioner a widow and a minor child Aaren Cobriea, the issue of petitioner’s marriage with the said decd. and also an estate consisting of land, a slave, stock, horses &c. Petitioner being the widow in community prays that an inventory may be made and that on a final hearing and after due proceedings had, she may be appointed Administratrix of said Estate and Natural Tutrix to her said child and for such other orders &c as may be necessary. H. Regenburg, Atty. State of Louisiana Parish of Union The premises considered, it is ordered and decreed that the application of Sarah C. Absent be advertised according to law. It is further ordered that W. C. Smith, Parish Recorder be and he is hereby appointed to make an inventory and appraisement of all the property of the Estate of Anderson Cobriea, Decd. and due return thereof make to this office without delay. Done and signed in office January 10th 1863. J. L. Guthrie, Clerk State of Louisiana Parish of Union By reason of proper advertisement having been made and no opposition filed thereto it is ordered that Sarah C. Cobriea be appointed Administratrix of the Estate of A. Cobriea, Decd. and upon her complying with the Law that letters do issue to her. Done and signed in office January 24th 1863. J. L. Guthrie, Clerk State of Louisiana Parish of Union Know all men by these presents that we Sarah C. Cobriea as principal and Charles Absent as her security are held and firmly bound unto W. B. Egan, Judge of the 11th Judicial District Court, Parish and State aforesaid for the time being or to his successors in office in the just and full sum of [blank] Dollars to the true and faithful payment thereof well and truly to be made, we bind ourselves, our heirs, assigns, representatives and legal executors or Administrators firmly by these presents. Dated January 24th 1863. The condition of the above obligation is such that whereas the above considered S. C. Cobriea hath this day been duly and legally appointed Administrtatrix of the Estate of Anderson Cobriea, Decd. and she hath taken the oath in conformity with the law. Now therefore of the said Sarah C. Cobriea shall faithfully and impartially discharge all and singular the duties incumbent on her as Administratrix of said Estate and shall render a true and faithful account to the Judge of said court of all her acts about said Estate also a true account given of all monies or other property belonging to the said Estate received from this or any other state and shall whenever legally required so to do, pay over all sums of money or other property of said Estate to the proper person or persons to receive the same then this obligation to be null and void, otherwise to be and remain in full force and effect against the principal and her said securities. Cobriea has this day been duly and legally appointed Administratrix of the Estate of Anderson Cobriea, Decd. and she hath given bond and taken the oath according to the requirements of law. Now, therefore, the said Sarah C. Cobriea is hereby duly and legally authorized and empowered to do and perform all and singular the duties appertaining to said appointment according to law. Smith Parish Recorder State of Louisiana Parish of Union Be it remembered that on the 13th day of January AD 1863 in pursuance of an order of the Honorable 11th Judicial District Court in and for the Parish of Union, Louisiana, I, William C. Smith, Parish Recorder and Ex Officio Notary Public in and for said Parish and State assisted by Marshall Day and W. C. H. Parker and sworn by me the said Recorder as appraisers proceeded to make an inventory and appraisement of all the property both real and personal belonging to the Estate and Succession of Anderson W. Cobriea, Decd. as herein after set forth. Had of land numbered as following: The SE ¼ of SE ¼ of Sec. 21 and the NE ¼ of NE ¼ of Sec. 28 also the SW ¼ of SW ¼ of Sec. 22 all in Township No. 22 N of Range No. 3 East containing 120 acres more or less with the improvements situated thereon apprd. @ $3 per acre $360.00 Lot of stock hogs, 7 sows and 35 pigs more or less apprd. @ 85.00 3 two year old hogs apprd. @ 50.00 11 head one year old hogs apprd. @ 75.00 1 clothes press apprd. @ 6.00 1 roan mule apprd. @ 100.00 1 white pony apprd. @ 50.00 1 man’s saddle apprd. @ 8.00 2 bales cotton apprd. @ 80.00 Negro girl Ann about [blank] years of age of black complexion apprd. @ 600.00 W. H. C. Parker note for $85 to be paid in cotton at the current price of the country 1st January 1863 ___85.00 $1512.00 Having completed the foregoing inventory and appraisement as above set forth, I have on this the 13th day of January AD 1863 closed the same. In testimony whereof , I have caused the said appraisers to sign their names hereto in the presence of O. P. Absent, Administratrix of the Estate of Anderson Cobriea, Decd. respectfully represents unto your honor that part of the said Estate is personal property subject to waste, expensive to keep and of no use to the Estate. Wherefore she prays that an order may issue for the sale of each personal property according to law and for such other orders and decrees in the premises as the case requires. H. Regenburg, Atty.
