Another nearby family was that of John Huey, presumably related to Susan. The Colvins lived near the modern Village of Vienna. The post office there was formed first by Daniel's son, Jeptha Colvin, in 1838. A resident of your said Parish and State with respect represents unto your Honor, that Susan Huey, Alias Colvin, the wife of your petitioner, departed this life some time in the month of October 1840 leaving a considerable amount of property situated in said Parish and State and the following persons are heirs and interested therein; Jeptha Colvin, Daniel Colvin, Jun. And Susan Coonse, the wife of James Coonse, John Johnson, aged about 22 years, Daniel Johnson aged about 20 years, Dorcas Johnson wife of Martha Turner, aged about fifteen years, Betsey Johnson about 12 years, representing the mother Sarah Colvin, Decd. late the life of Job Johnson and daughter of your petitioner and said Susan Colvin, Decd. Your petitioner represents that Susan Huey, Decd. the wife of your petitioner as aforesaid left considerable property real and personal, the separate property and community property with your petitioner. The separate property consists of the following named Negroes to wit: a Negro woman named Charity and her eight children, 1st Lucy, 2nd Sam, 3rd Rachael, 4th Burr, 5th Matilda, 6th Sarah, 7th Jane, and 8th James being the same property that the wife of your petitioner, obtained and received from the Estate of her father James Huey, Senior by act of Partition and division of said Huey Estate and amongst his children on the 26th of January 1822, passed and done in the Parish of Ouachita of which the present parish of Union then formed a part. Your petitioner represents that the Negro man named Bill, Allick & Shadrach, and the Negro woman Aggie, Soppia, Flora and her child Ann and her two children Mary Ann & Clarrissa community property between your petitioner and Susan Huey, Decd. besides other property consisting of Cattle, horses and hogs and farming utensils and rights and credits. Whereof your petitioner prays that he be duly and legally appointed Administrator, and confirmed in the same and that your petitioner be appointed Tutor to the minor children, Daniel and Betsey Johnson and that Under tutors be appointed as the Law required and for all such and further relief as the nature of the case may require. Your petitioner further prays that a true faithful inventory of the property aforesaid be taken as the law requires and for all further relief as in duty bounds &c. Daniel Colvin, Sr. Administrator To the Honorable John Taylor, Judge of the Probate Court in and for the Parish of Union, State of Louisiana. Your petitioner Daniel Colvin, Sr. of your said parish and State with respect represents that in pursuance of an order from your Honorable Court that a sale and partition of the Estate of Susan Huey alias Colvin, wife of your petitioner and the community proper having taken place, your petitioner prays that the heirs be notified to file their objection in ten days in your Honorable Court if any they have why the said partition should not be homologated and your petitioner be liberated from the administratorship of said Estate and his bond be cancelled upon a final settlement of the succession.
