The petition of Susan A. Cook, a resident of your Parish and State respectfully shows that Don Pedro Aquilla Cook departed this life about the 18th of July 1873 at his residence in union Parish aforesaid intestate. That he left a small Estate consisting of real estate, personal effects, rights, debts and credits. That he also left your petitioner his surviving widow and partner in community and three heirs, his children to wit: B. Parker Cook and Abigail E. Cook, the wife of Jno. McGovern, all of Union Parish and John Bela Cook of the State of Texas. That an Administration of the Estate of deceased is necessary and that petitioner as the surviving partner in the community of assets and gains is entitled to the Administration thereof. Wherefore your petitioner prays that this her application to be appointed Administratrix of the Estate of D. P. A. Cook, Decd. be advertised according to law and after the legal delays that she be appointed and confirmed Administratrix of said Estate and the letters issue accordingly. Also that an Inventory and Appraisement of said Estate be ordered and due return thereof be made to this court for all orders and decrees necessary in the premises and for general relief &c. Jno. L. It is hereby ordered, adjudged and decreed that the application of Susan A. Cook to be appointed Administratrix of the Estate of D. P. A. Cook, Decd. be advertised according to law and it is further ordered that Wm. C. Smith, Parish Recorder now proceed to make an Inventory and Appraisement of said Estate and due return thereof to his office. Done and signed in chambers on the sixth day of September 1873. Thos. C. Lewis Parish Judge Parish Court of Union Parish, Louisiana By reason that the application of Susan A. Cook to be appointed Administratrix of the Estate of D. P. A. Cook, deceased has been advertised for more than ten days as the law requires and no opposition having been filed thereto. It is ordered that the said Susan A. Cook be and hereby appointed Administratrix of said Estate and that letters of appointment issue to her upon her taking the required oath and giving bond with good solvent security. Having completed the foregoing inventory and appraisement on this the 13th day of September AD 1873, I have closed the same in testimony whereof I have caused said appraisers to sign their names hereto in presence of William Brasher and E. Cook as principal and Joseph Andres as securities are held and firmly bound unto the Honorable Thomas C. Lewis, Judge of Union Parish, La. and unto his successors in office in the just and full sum of two thousand two hundred dollars [unreadable] payment of which we bind ourselves, our heirs, Administrators and legal representatives firmly and in solido by these presents. Dated at Farmerville, La. this 17th day of September AD 1873. The condition of the above obligation is such that whereas the above bound Susan A. Cook has this day by duly and legal appointed Administratrix of the Estate of D. P. A. Cook, deceased and she has taken the oath required by law. Now if therefore the above bound Susan A. Cook as principal shall faithfully and impartially discharge all the duties incumbent on her as Administratrix of said Estate and shall render to the Judge of the aforesaid court a true and correct account of all her acts and doings in and about said Estate and shall when legally required so to do pay over all sums of money and deliver all the property of whatever nature that she may have in her hands belonging to said Estate to the proper person or persons to receive the same. Then this obligation to be null and void. Otherwise to be and remain in full force and effect according to law. Done, signed and acknowledged before me this the day and date above written. ATTEST: J. Cook has this day been duly and legally appointed Administratrix of the Estate of D. P. A. Cook, Deceased and she has given bond with good security and taken the oath required by law. Now therefore the aforesaid Susan A. Cook is hereby duly and legally authorized and empowered to do and perform all the acts appertaining to the said appointment according to law. The petition of Susan A. Cook of your said Parish and State aforesaid says respectfully that she has been duly appointed and has qualified as Administratrix of the Estate of D. P. A. Cook, decd. It is further avered that said Estate is so far involved in debt, which debts are now due and [unreadable] and pressing. That a sale of all the property is necessary to pay the said debts and further that most of the property of a perishable nature and expensive to keep on hand. Wherefore she prays for an order of your Honorable Court authorizing the sale of all the property of said Estate to pay the debts of the same and that the Sheriff of Union Parish be ordered to make said sale for all further orders necessary in the premises and for general relief &c. Cook, decd., the premises considered and the law authorizing the same, it is hereby ordered, adjudged and decreed that the Administratrix of the Estate of D. P. a. Cook, decd. be and she is authorized to render a sale of all the property of said Estate according to law to pay the debts of the Estate and Sheriff of the Parish of Union as ordered to make said sale with due return thereof. Pursuant to an order of the Parish Court of Union Parish, State of Louisiana authorizing me to sell all of the property both real and personal of the Estate of D. P. A. Cook, Decd. having advertised the same for more than thirty days by publishing in the Union Record, a newspaper published at Farmerville, Louisiana on the 2nd day of December 1873 between the legal hours of sale at the late residence of D. P. A. Cook, decd. after reading said advertisement and certificate of mortgage and fully making known the terms of sale in an audible voice to those present.
