The petition of Thomas S. Cooper, a resident of your Parish and State with respect represents that his wife Jane Cooper, late of same residence departed this life on or about the 17th October 1863 leaving six minor heirs of the Estate of Jane Cooper, Decd. to with: Alice J., Marion Columbus, Jesse, Martha E., Narcissa P. and William Cooper, minor heirs of the said deceased also leaving a small estate. Petitioner represents that a tutorship is necessary and as the father of said minors, he is entitled to be appointed Natural tutor. Wherefore he prays that after due proceedings had, he be appointed Natural Tutor of said minors and authorized to control all property belonging to them. He also prays that Livingston Cooper appointed Under tutor for said minors and for further orders necessary in the premises and general and equitable relief &c. Tompkins & Lewis Atty. For Petitioner State of Louisiana 11th District Court Parish of Union The premises considered, it is hereby ordered and decreed that Thomas S. Cooper be appointed and confirmed as Natural Tutor to the following named minor heirs of the Estate of Jane Cooper, Decd. to wit: Alice J., Marion C., Jesse M., Martha E., Narcissa and William Cooper and it is further ordered that Livingston Cooper be appointed Under tutor of said minors and upon them taking the oaths prescribed by law, that letters of such do issue to them. Done and signed in office this 9th day of April AD 1868. J. W. Reid, Clerk State of Louisiana 11th Judicial District Court Parish of Union I, Thomas S. Cooper, do solemnly swear that I will faithfully and impartially discharge all the duties incumbent upon me as natural Tutor of my following named minor children to wit: Alice J., Marion C., Jesse M., Martha E., Narcissa and William Cooper, heirs of the Estate of Jane Cooper, Deceased according to the best of my ability and understanding. Cooper has been duly and legally appointed Natural Tutor of his following named children to wit: Alice J., Marion C., Jesse M., Martha E., Narcissa and William Cooper, heirs of the Estate of Jane Cooper, Deceased and he has taken the oath prescribed by law. Now, therefore, the said Thomas S. Cooper is hereby duly and legally authorized and empowered to do and perform all the acts appertaining to the said appointment according to law.
