The petition of Lucy Crow, wife of the late John Crow, Decd. of the Parish and State above written, respectfully represents unto your Honorable Court that John Crow, late of your aforesaid parish and State departed this life intestate at his residence in said Parish on the 15th of August 1862, leaving a small estate consisting of land, a negro slave, stock of all kinds, rights, credits and some debts. He also left your petitioner, his surviving widow and nine children to wit: John Washington, Stephen R., late decd. and represented by an infant son, John D. Crow, Jane R., wife of Albert F. Moore, George, Isaac, Franklin, Jerusha, Sally and Mary Crow, all issue of the marriage between the said John Crow and your petitioner, who avers that she is surviving spouse and partner in community with the said deceased. She therefore prays that an inventory and an appraisement of the said Estate of John Crow, Decd. be ordered. That this her application be advertised according to law and after the legal delays she be appointed administratrix of the said Estate for all further orders and decrees necessary and proper in the premises and for general relief &c. The premises considered, it is hereby ordered and decreed that the application foregoing of Mrs. Lucy Crow to be appointed Administratrix of the Estate of John Crow, Decd. be advertised according to law and that W. C. Smith, parish Recorder and Ex Officio Notary Public be and he is hereby appointed and ordered to make an inventory and appraisement of the said Estate and due return thereof make to this office. Done and signed in office on this September 13th AD 1862. Jas. L. Guthrie Clerk, District Court State of Louisiana Parish of Union I, Lucy Crow, do solemnly swear that I will faithfully and impartially discharge all and singular the duties incumbent on me as Administratrix of the Estate of John Crow, Decd. to the best of my ability and understanding. Thomas Justice of the Peace State of Louisiana 11th District Court Parish of Union Succession of John Crow, Decd. Whereas, Lucy Crow has this day been duly and legally appointed Administratrix of the Estate of John Crow, Decd. and she has given bond with sufficient security and taken the required oath. Now, therefore the said Lucy Crow is hereby duly and legally authorized and empowered to do and perform all and singular the duties incumbent on her as Administratorix of said Estate. Given under my hand and seal of said Court this the 23rd of September 1862. Jas. L. Guthrie, Clerk State of Louisiana Parish of Union Know all men by these presents that we Lucy Crow as principal and John Traylor and L. M. Powell, her securities are held and firmly bound unto W. R. Eagan, Judge of the 11th District Court, Parish and State above written, in the just and full sum of Eight thousand and six and 13/100 Dollars to the true and faithful payment thereof well and truly to be made, we bind ourselves, our heirs, assigns and legal representatives firmly by these presents. Dated this the 13th day of September AD 1862. The condition of the above obligation is such that whereas the said Lucy Crow has been duly and legally appointed Administratrix of the Estate of John Crow, Decd. and she has taken the oath required by law. Now therefore, if the said Lucy Crow shall faithfully and impartially administer said Estate and shall make annually an account to the Judge of said court of all her acts and doings in and about said Estate and shall account to the said Judge for all monies or other properties received in this or any other state belonging to said Estate and shall whenever legally required so to do pay over all sums of money or other property of said Estate to the proper person or persons to receive the same [unreadable] above obligations to be null and void, otherwise to be and remain in full force and virtue against the principal and her said securities. Smith, Parish Recorder and Ex Officio Notary Public in and for the Parish of Union, Louisiana duly commissioned and sworn, I repaired to the late residence of John Crow, Decd. for the purpose of making an Inventory and appraisement of the property of the Estate of the said John Crow, Decd. and whereas Miles W. Goldsby and Sampson R. Thomas being duly appointed and sworn by me the said Recorder as appraisers and in the presence of two lawful and competent witnesses, we proceeded to make the following inventory and appraisement as follows to wit: A tract of land known as the late residence of the Decd. numbered as follows: The NW ¼ of Sec. 36 Township 22 N R 2 East containing 161 53/100 acres. The NW ¼ of Sec. 23 Township 22 N R. 2 East containing 161 38/100 containing in the aggregate 321 91/100 acres with the improvements therein appraised @ $3.00 per acre $965.73 Another tract of land situated in the Parish of Union known as the Lewis Thomas place numberd as follows: the SE ¼ of the NE ¼ of Sec. 24 Township 22 N R. 2 East and the SW ¼ of the NW ¼ of Sec. 30 T 22 N Range 3 East containing 79 37/100 acres.
