Crow, Decd. To the Honorable the Judge of the 12th Judicial District Court in and for the Parish of Union, Louisiana The petition of Robert M. Browning, a resident of Claiborne Parish, Louisiana, respectfully represents unto your honor that Marlin Crow, late of your said Parish departed this life in said Parish on or about the [blank] of [blank] AD 1860 leaving an estate consisting of land, personal property, rights, credits and debts, also leaving a widow Sarah Browning and the children of which to wit: Sarah Jane, aged 20 years, Marisel[?] S. 19 years, Adaline 15 years, Nancy 13 years, Nester Tanyer[?] 11 years, Pulaski 8 years, Marlin Reubin[?] 6 years, Luther Preston 4 years and Thos. Lawrence 1 year are minors. Petitioner represents that at the request of the widow in community he has consented to take charge of the business of settling the said estate. He therefore prays that an inventory and appraisement may be made according to law, and after due proceeding he may be appointed Administrator of said estate, and that Sarah Browning the widow in community be appointed Natural Tutrix to the minor heirs and for such other orders and decrees as shall be necessary and proper. H. Regenburg, Atty. State of Louisiana 12th Judicial District Court Parish of Union The premises considered, it is ordered and decreed that the within application of Robert M. Browning to be appointed Administrator of the Estate of Marlin Crow, Decd. be advertised according to Law. It is further ordered that Wm. C. Smith, Parish Recorder and Ex-Officio Notary Public in and for said Parish and State be and he is authorized to make an inventory and appraisement of the property belonging to the said estate of Marlin Crow, Decd. and due return thereof make to this office without delay. Done and signed in office on this the 31st July AD 1860. Thos. C. Lewis, Clerk State of Louisiana 12th Judicial District Court Parish of Union The premises having been duly considered and by further reason of the proper advertisement having been made and no opposition filed thereto in my office, it is ordered, adjudged and decreed that Robert M. Browning be and he is hereby appointed Administrator of the Estate of Marlin T. Crow, Decd. and upon his giving bond and good Security that letters do issue to him. Browning do solemnly swear that I will faithfully and impartially discharge all and singular the duties incumbent on me as Administrator of the Estate of Marlin T. Browning has been duly and legally appointed Administrator of the Estate of Marlin T. Crow, Decd. and he has taken the oath required by law. Note therefore the said Robert M. Browning is hereby duly and legally authorized and empowered to do and perform all acts pertaining to said appointment according to law. Given under my hand and the seal of said Court on this the 14th day of August AD 1860. Thos. C. Lewis, Clerk State of Louisiana Parish of Union Know all men by these presents that we Robert M. Browning as principal and George A. Killgore as his security are held and firmly bound unto Robert W. Richardson, Judge of the 12th Judicial District Court or to his successors in office in the sum of Two thousand one hundred and sixty five dollars to the true and faithful payment thereof and bind ourselves, our heirs and assigns in solid on this the 14th day of August AD 1860. The condition of the above obligation is such that whereas the said Robert M. Browning has been duly and legally appointed Administrator of the Estate of Marlin T. Crow, decd. and he has taken the oath prescribe by law. Now, therefore if the said Robert M. Browning shall faithfully administer said Estate and shall render a true and correct account to the Judge of said Court or to his successors in office or to the legal heirs of said estate whereon required legally so to do, then this obligation to be null and void otherwise to be and remain in full force and effect against the principal and his said securities. Smith, Recorder State of Louisiana Parish of Union Be it remembered that on this the 3rd day of August AD one thousand eight hundred and sixty, in presence of an order of the Honorable 12th Judicial District Court within and for the Parish of Union, La. And to William C. Smith, Parish Recorder and Ex-officio Notary Public in and for said Parish and State directed, I repaired to the late residence of Marlin T. Crow, Decd. of this Parish for the purpose of making an inventory and appraisement of all the property, both real and personal belonging to the estate of the said Marlin T. Crow, deceased and whereas John A. Smith, Recorder To the Honorable the Judge of the 12th Judicial District Court in and for the Parish of Union, Louisiana The petition of Robert M. Browning, Administrator of the Estate of Marlin T. Crow, Decd, late of said Parish duly appointed by your Honorable Court and qualified according to law, respectfully represents that an examination of the said estate considerably in ordered in debt and that for the purpose of liquidating the same it will be necessary that on all the property composing the said estate should be sold for that purpose. He represents that it would be his opinion to the interest of the said estate that there should be a credit extended in said sale until the first of January AD 1862 on all sums over ten dollars. Sums of ten dollars and under, Cash. He therefore prays that an order may issue directing the said property to be sold accordingly and for such other orders in the premises as shall be necessary and proper according to law. H. Regenburg, Atty The premises considered, it is ordered that all the property of the Estate of Marlin T. Crow, Decd. be sold at Public sale and that it be sold on a credit until the first of January AD 1862 for all sums of ten dollars and therefore for sums of ten dollars and under, cash. It is further ordered that Robert M. Browning the Administrator be appointed to make said sale. Done and signed in office this the 14th day of August AD 1860. Thos. C. Lewis, Clerk Be it remembered that on the eleventh day of January AD 1862 after having given due and lawful notice by proper advertisements there being no newspaper published in the parish during the time and in pursuance of an order of the Honorable the 11th District Court in and for the Parish of Union, Louisiana to me directed, I Robert M. Browning, Administrator of the Estate of Marland T. Crow, Dec. proceeded to sell the land belonging to the Estate of Marland T. Crow, Decd. described and numbered as follows to wit: The South West quarter and the North West quarter of the North West quarter. The North East quarter of the North West quarter and the East half of the South West quarter all of Section fifteen Township twenty West Range 3 West, containing two hundred and thirty eight acres more or less together with the improvements thereon being and thereto belonging and that George W. Hollis of the said Parish became the purchaser. He then and there bid the sum of nine hundred and fifty two dollars, it being the highest and last bid. Now therefore the said Hollis having complied with the terms of sale by paying one half cash and exacting his note payable to me as Administrator aforesaid for four hundred and seventy six dollars and on the first day of January AD 1863 with 8 percent interest from due bearing with date herewith. I hereby adjudicate, grant, bargain and sell unto him, his heirs and assigns the said premises forever, but receiving a mortgage and venders privileges with same until the said note shall be paid. In testimony whereof, I have signed these presents together with the said G. W. Holland and T. P. Lawrence and J. G. Hollis as witnesses this the 17th day of January AD 1862. Witnesses: R. M.
