Edwards is undoubtedly the T. L. Edwards born about 1838 who lived with his father M. Edwards (born c1815 in Georgia) near Marion. M. Edwards owned a plantation valued at $640, with his personal estate valued at $2030. Thomas L. Edwards enlisted as a private in Company E, 25th Regiment Louisiana Infantry on 7 May 1862. He was wounded at the Battle of Murfreesboro, Tennessee on 2 January 1863, and he was left there in the hospital after the battle. He was apparently captured by the Yankees and taken to Camp Douglas, Illinios, where he died in March 1863 from his wounds. ================================================================================= ================================================================================= ================================================================================= ================================================================================= Union Parish Louisiana Succession Book F, pp. 342 - 348 ================================================================================= ================================================================================= To the Honorable Judge of the 11th Judicial District Court in and for Union Parish, Louisiana. The Petition of James Edwards, a resident of the Parish and State above written respectfully represents unto your Honor that Thomas Edwards late of said Parish departed this life during the year 1863 leaving a widow Elizabeth Edwards and one minor heir the issue of their marriage to wit Joseph L. Edwards, that no Administrator has been appointed to the Estate of said Thomas L. Edwards, that on or about the 1st day of July 1866 the said widow of Deceased also departed this life. Petitioner represents that he is an Uncle of said deceased and that an administration is necessary. Wherefore he prays that this his application be duly advertised according to law and after all legal delays that he be appointed Administrator of said Estate and tutor of the said minor Joseph L. Edwards and for all other orders and decrees necessary in the premises and for general relief. Tompkins & Lewis. State of Louisiana 11th Judicial District Court Parish of Union It is ordered and decreed that the within application of James Edwards to be appointed Administrator of the Estate of Thomas Edwards, decd. be advertised according to law. Edwards, Decd. and he has given bond with good security and has taken the oath prescribed by law. Now therefore, the said James Edwards is hereby duly and legally authorized and empowered to do and perform all the acts appertaining to said appointment according to law. Smith as his securities are held and firmly bound unto the Honorable J. D. Watkins for the time being or to his successors in office in the just and fully sum of Five Hundred ($500.00) dollars to the true and faithful payment whereof well and truly to be made, we bind ourselves, our heirs assigns and legal representatives firmly by these presents. Dated at Farmerville, La. this 21st day of August AD 1866. The condition of this obligation is such that whereas the above bounden James Edwards has been duly and legally appointed Administrator of the Estate of Thomas L. Edwards, Decd. and has taken the oath prescribed by law. Now therefore, if the said James Edwards shall faithfully and impartially discharge and perform all the duties incumbent on me as Admr. of said Estate and shall render to the Judge of said court a true and correct account of all his acts and doings in and about said Estates and shall faithfully account for all the property placed in his hands pertaining to the said Estate and shall whenever legally required so to do pay over all sums of money and deliver all the property belonging to the said Estate to the proper person or persons to receive the same , then this obligation to be null and void. Otherwise to be and remain in full force and effect against the principal and his said securities. The Petition of James Edwards, a resident of said Parish and State and Administrator of the Estate of Thomas L. Edwards, Decd. respectfully represents that the personal property belonging to the said Estate is subject to deterioration and waste in value and in part unproductive and expensive to keep. Wherefore he prays that an order may issue from your Honorable Court directing the sale of the same. He represents that it will be to the interest of the Estate that the said property be sold in a credit until the first January next and prays that the sale ordered may be on a credit until the first day of January next for the sums of ten dollars and over, and for all sums under ten dollars cash he further prays for such other orders and decrees as may be necessary in the premises and for general relief.
