The Petition of Charity F. Ellis, widow and relict of Benjamin C. Ellis, late a resident of your said Parish of Union who died at his residence therein on or about the 30th day of April 1866 respectfully represents unto your Honorable court that the said deceased husband left at his death a considerable Estate comprised of Land, personal property and rights and credits situated in your said parish and State, all of which was community between your Petitioner and her deceased husband and the following children and being issue by his marriage with your Petitioner to wit: John E. Ellis, Elizabeth Ellis, widow of Neil Williams, Decd. both of age and George H. Ellis, Joseph G. Ellis and James C. Ellis. Petitioner avers that there are some debts owing by said Estate and that it becomes necessary to have an administrator appointed to said Estate in order to pay the debts and take care of the property. Therefore, Petitioner prays your Honorable court this her application to be appointed Administratrix of said Estate to be advertised according to law and if there be no legal opposition to the same that your Petitioner be appointed Administratrix thereof and further that your Honorable Court order an Inventory and Appraisement to be made of all the property composing said Estate. Petitioner also prays that she be confirmed and appointed Natural Tutrix of the said minor children issue by her marriage with her said deceased husband and that your honorable also appoint an Under Tutor to said minors and for all such orders and decrees in the premises as may in Law and Equity be necessary and for general and equitable relief &c. Lewis Clerk of District Court State of Louisiana Parish of Union The application of Charity F. Ellis to be appointed Administratrix of Benjamin C. Ellis, Decd. having been duly and legally advertised for more than ten days by advertisement published in the newspaper known as the Union Record, weekly from the day of [blank] of AD 1866 and no opposition having been made hereto. She is duly appointed Administratrix of said Estate in taking the oath and giving bond required by law. It is further ordered that the Parish Recorder of the said Parish and State be and is hereby ordered to make an inventory and appraisement of all the property comprising said Estate and that he appoint and qualify appraisers to assist him in the premises. Ellis has this day been duly and legally appointed Administratrix of the Estate of Benjamin C. Ellis, Decd. and she has given bond with good and approved security and taken the oath prescribed by law. Now therefore the said charity F. Ellis is hereby duly and legally authorized and empowered to do and perform all and singular the duties appertaining to said appointment according to law. State of Louisiana 11th Judicial District Court Parish of Union Know all men by these presents that we Charity F. Ellis as principal and Lucien Larche and G. W. Reynolds as her securities are held and firmly bound unto the Honorable J. D. Watkins, Judge of the 11th Judicial District for the time being or his successors in office in the just and full sum of Eight Thousand five hundred and seventy one dollars to the true and faithful payment whereof well and truly to be made, we bind ourselves, our heirs, assigns, Executors and legal representatives firmly by these presents. Dated at Farmerville, La. this 18th day of August AD 1866. The condition of this obligation is such that whereas the above bounden Charity F. Ellis has been duly and legally appointed Administratrix of the Estate of Benjamin C. Ellis, Decd. and she has taken the oath prescribed by law. Now, therefore, if the said Charity F. Ellis shall faithfully and impartially discharge and perform all the duties incumbent on her as Administratrix of said Estate and shall render to the judge of said court a true and correct account of all acts and doings in and about said Estate and shall faithfully account for all property placed in her hands belonging to the said Estate and shall whenever legally required so to do pay over all sums of money and deliver all the property belonging to the said Estate to the proper person or persons to receive the same, then this obligation to be null and void, otherwise to be and remain in full force and effect. Ellis, Deceased late of the Parish of Union and whereas not having able to complete said Inventory the 1st day, I have closed the same until 8 O’clock tomorrow morning 9th in faith whereof I cause the said appraisers to sign their names in the presence of W.
