Farmer ================================================================================= To the Honorable the Judge of the Clerk of the Eleventh Judicial District Court in and for the Parish of Union, State of Louisiana. The petition of Harriet L. Jamison of the Parish and State above written respectfully represents that she is the mother and was the Natural Tutrix of the minors Susanah R. and Shepherd M. Farmer, that she lost that right by marrying without first having caused a family meeting to be convoked for the purpose of consulting and advising with regard to her being continued in said office. That her late husband, David M. Jamison, was appointed Tutor to the said minors but that he is since dead and there is a necessity for the appointment of another Tutor to the said minors wherefore she prays that a family meeting be convoked according to law and that in accordance with the advice of recommendation of said meeting, a Tutor be appointed for all orders and decrees necessary in the premises and for general relief &c. Payne, G. M. Dean, W. Thompson and J. A. Ross, friends and relations of the above mentioned minors Susanah R. and Shepherd M. Farmer residing in said Parish of Union be convoked before Wm. C. Smith, Parish Recorder and Ex Officio Notary Public in and for the said Parish on Monday the 28th day of October AD 1865 at 12 O’clock PM to consult on the matters and things set forth in the petition and that he make due return of the same to this office. Done and signed in office on this the 3rd day of September AD 1865. Thos. C. Smith, Recorder State of Louisiana Parish of Union Be it remembered that on this 28th day of October AD 1865 pursuant to an order issued from the Honorable 11th Judicial District Court bearing date September 8th 1865 and to me William C. Smith, Recorder and Ex Officio Notary Public in and for said Parish directed, I caused to come before me at my office in the Town of Farmerville the following citizens of the Parish of Union males of age viz. Whitfield D. Slayton, Elijah M. Dean, John A. Ross, Daniel M. Payne and Joseph Baker, relatives and friends of minors Susanah R. and Shepherd M. Farmer convoked as a family meeting to advise and recommend a suitable person to be appointed Tutor to said minors said members being first duly sworn by me the said Recorder proceeded to deliberate upon the subject matter above set forth and after mature deliberation, they adviser and recommended that Mrs. H. Louisa Jamison, the mother of said minors Susanah R. and Shepherd M. Farmer be appointed Tutrix on complying with the law in such cases made and provided. In testimony whereof I have caused said members to sign their names hereto in the presence of the undersigned lawful and competent witnesses called for the purpose and approved by Alen Stanwell, Under Tutor on this the day and date above written October 28th 1865. Jamison, solemnly swear that I will faithfully and impartially discharge all the duties incumbent on me as Tutrix of my following named minor children to wit: Susanah R. and Shepherd M. Slayton Deputy Clerk Tutorship of the minors S. R. and S. M. Farmer State of Louisiana 11th Judicial District Court Parish of Union Whereas, Harriet L. Jamison has been duly appointed by and with the advise of a family meeting duly convoked before Wm. C. Smith, Parish Recorder &c as Tutrix to her following named minor children to wit: Shepherd M. and Susanah R. Farmer and she has given bond with good security and has taken the oath prescribed by law. Now therefore, the said Harriet L. Jamison is hereby duly and legally authorized to do and perform all the duties appertaining to the said appointment according to law. Given under my hand and seal of office this 27th day of February AD 1865. Thos. C. Lewis Clerk, Dist. Court State of Louisiana Parish of Union Know all men by these present that we Harriet L. Jamison as Principle and O. B. Hill and John D. Taylor as her securities are held and firmly bound unto J. D. Watkins, Judge of the 11th Judicial District Court for the time bing or to his successors in office in the just and full sum of One Thousnand Dollars ($1,000.00) to the true and faithful payment whereof well and truly to be made, we bind ourselves, our heirs, assigns and legal representatives firmly by these presents. Dated at Spearsville, La. this 27th day of February Ad 1865. The condition of the above obligation is such that whereas the said Harriet L. Jamison has been duly and legally appointed Tutrix of her following named minor children to wit: Susanah R. and Sheppard M. Farmer and she has taken the oath prescribed by law. Now therefore, if the said Harriet L. Jamison shall faithfully and impartially discharge all the duties incumbent on her in her said capacity and shall faithfully account to the Judge of said Court for all monies or property received from this or any other state belonging to said minors and shall render yearly to the Judge of said Court a true and faithful account of all her acts and doings in and about said matter of Tutorship and shall faithfully look after the bodies of said minors and study their interest in all things and shall whenever legally so to do, pay over all sums of money, deliver all the property of whatever nature to the same, then this obligation to be null and void.
