Gee, Deceased of Union Parish Louisiana Union Parish Louisiana Succession Book A, pp. 265 - 271 ======================================================================================= ======================================================================================= NOTE: Mary Caroline Ward (1818 - 1892) was the daughter of Elisha Ward, Sr. and Jane Washington Neeland. She married Richard H. Gee in the latter 1830s, probably in Sumter County Alabama or Kemper County Mississippi. Her brother David Ward moved to what is now Union Parish LA in February 1837, and Elisha and Jane followed him there by August 1838. Mary and Richard Gee remained in Sumter County Alabama until about 1841, when they also followed the Wards to Union Parish. After Richard's death, Mary married Pinckey Odom. They lived in Union Parish until their deaths. ======================================================================================= ======================================================================================= To the Honorable the Probate Judge of the Parish of Union, State of Louisiana. The petitioner of Mary C. Gee, a resident of your said Parish with respect represents unto your Honor that her husband Richard Gee, late of said parish departed this life intestate on or about the 27th day of July AD 1843 leaving your petitioner his widow and the following minor children issue by his marriage with your petitioner to wit: Louisa Jane Gee aged about 5 years, Elizabeth F. Gee aged about 3 years, Jeremiah Q. Gee aged 1 year besides a considerable estate real and personal, rights and credits, lands and tenements whereof your petitioner prays your Honor to cause an inventory and appraisement to be made and that your petitioner be appointed Administratrix of said Estate and be confirmed as Natural Tutrix of her minor children as above named and that David Ward be appointed Under Tutor and for all such other and further reliefs as the nature of the case may require as in duty bound your petitioner ever prays &c. Mary C. Gee State of Louisiana Parish of Union Let the prayer of the petitioner be granted and it is further ordered that an inventory and appraisement be made and that she be appointed Administratrix upon giving bond, security and taking the oath conditioned as the law directs and qualified as Natural Tutrix and that David Ward be appointed Under Tutor of said minors and that letters issue. October 6th 1843. John Taylor, Judge State of Louisiana Parish of Union Be it remembered that on this 6th day of October AD 1843 that I John Taylor, Parish Judge and Ex Officio Notary Public in and for said Parish and State having received official information of the death of Richard Gee who departed this life intestate at his residence in the Parish of Union on or about 27th day of July 1843 leaving his children and several minor heirs besides a considerable Estate of property real and personal rights and credits, goods and chattels, lands and tenements and for the purpose of making an inventory and appraisement of said Estate. I have reprised to the late residence of said decedents and for the purpose as aforesaid. I have appointed James E. Jones and David Ware, residents and free holders of said Parish appraisers to appraise all the property comprising said decedents Estate and whom after being well and truly sworn by me the said Judge will and truly to do and perform all and singular the matters and things herein according to law, have proceeded as follows together with me the said Judge and undersigned witnesses and parties to wit: Inventory Appraisement Abe, a negro man aged about 27 years 600.00 One yoke oxen 35.00 One mule 50.00 One gray horse 250.00 One double barreled shot gun ____15.00 Carried over 725.00 One cow and yearling 10.00 Twelve head of hogs ____24.00 $759.00 The above appraisement amounting to seven hundred fifty nine dollars. Gee as principal and David Ward her security acknowledge to owe and be indebted unto John Taylor, Judge of Probates in and for said Parish and his successors in office for the time being in the sum of nine hundred and fifty dollars to the payment whereof well and truly to be made we bind ourselves, our heirs, Executors, Administrators and assigns firmly by these presents dated this the sixth day of October AD 1843. Gee as principal and David Ward, her security acknowledge to owe and be indebted unto John Taylor, Judge of Probates in and for said parish and his successors in office for the time being in the sum of nine hundred and fifty dollars to the payment whereof well and truly to be made we bind ourselves, our heirs, executors and administrators and assigns firmly by these presents dated this the sixth day of October AD 1843. The condition of the above obligation is such that whereas the above bounden Mary C. Gee has been appointed Administratrix of the Estate of Richard Gee, Deceased. Now therefore if she the said Mary C. Gee shall well and truly discharge and perform all and singular the duties incumbent on her in her capacity as aforesaid especially to law and to the best of her abilities then and in that case the above obligation to null and void else to remain in full force and virtue. Gee and given bond and security and taken the oath as prescribed by law. Now therefore she is hereby authorized and fully empowered to discharge and perform all and singular the duties appertaining to the said appointment according to law. In testimony whereof, I have hereunto signed my name and affixed my seal of office on this 6th day of October AD 1843.
