H. D. Goyne, Jr. was known as 'Davis Goyne'. He moved with his father to Houston County GA about 1837, and then on to Union Parish Louisiana in 1848. In the late summer of 1861, Goyne enlisted in the "Stars of Equality", a unit of men financed by Hillory Herbert Ham (1828-1889) for the Confederate war effort. Goyne enlisted at the rank of sergeant, officially entering the Confederate service in December 1861 at Camp Moore. His unit was designated as Company E, 19th Regiment Louisiana Infantry. After training at Camp Moore and wintering at Chalmette south of New Orleans, the 19th Regiment was sent north by rail through Jackson to northern Mississippi, to face Yankee General Grant's army marching south from Kentucky through Tennessee. In March 1862, Goyne's unit camped at Corinth, Mississippi, a region that was then soaked by winter rains. The men reported slugging through the muck and high water during this period, and many died as a result of exposure and disease. Hiram D. Goyne, Jr. perished at Corinth of sickness in March or April 1862. ================================================================================= March 5th 1866 To the Honorable the Judge of the Eleventh Judicial District Court in and for the parish of Union, State of Louisiana.
