This unit consisted of men from the region in and around Farmerville. They entered the Confederate service on 6 May 1862 at Monroe. Griffin died on 9 December 1862 of an accident. When he enlisted, he gave his occupation as "tanner". Griffin was the son of Lorenzo Addison Griffin who died in Union Parish on 14 March 1839 and his wife, Mariah. ================================================================================== To the Honorable the Judge of the 11th Judicial District Court in and for the Parish of Union, Louisiana. The petition of Caroline Davis, widow of Addison Griffin, Decd. respectfully represents that her husband the said Addison Griffin, late of said Parish departed this life on or about the [blank] 1862 leaving her a widow also leaving a considerable estate consisting of land and other property. She prays that an inventory and appraisement be made according to law and that after due proceedings had she be appointed Administratrix of said Estate and for such other orders in the premises as may be necessary and for general relief. H. Regenburg, Atty. State of Louisiana Parish of Union It is ordered that the within application be advertised according to law. It is further ordered that W. C. Smith, Parish Recorder &c be and he is hereby ordered and authorized to make an inventory and appraisement of all the property of the Estate of Addison Griffin, Decd. and due return thereof make to me without delay. Smith, Parish Recorder State of Louisiana Parish of Union Be it remembered that on this the 31st day of January AD 1863, in pursuance of an order of the Honorable 11th Judicial District Court in and for the Parish and State aforesaid and to me William C. Smith, Parish Recorder and Ex Officio Notary Public in and for the Parish and State aforesaid directed, I proceeded to make an inventory and appraisement of all the property both real and personal belonging to the Estate of Lorenzo A. Griffin, Decd. and being assisted by James G. Rolls and Thos. Millsap, two lawful and competent citizens of the Parish of Union, who being duly appointed and sworn by me as appraisers made the following inventory and appraisement as hereinafter set forth to wit: Tract of land situated in the Parish of Union, La. containing 160 acres more or less with the improvements thereon apprd. @ $3. Per acre $480.00 The undivided half of 1 ox wagon apprd. @ 50.00 1 roan mare pony apprd. @ 150.00 1 lot farming utensils apprd. @ 8.50 1 rifle gun apprd. @ __20.00 Total amount $708.50 Having completed the foregoing inventory and appraisement as above set forth, I have on this the 31st day of January AD 1863 have closed the same, in testimony whereof I have caused the said appraisers to sign their names hereto with me the Recorder and in presence of A. State of Louisiana 11th District Court Parish of Union Know all men by these presents that we, Caroline Griffin, as principal and Thos. Millsap as her security are held and firmly bound unto W. B. Egan, Judge of the 11th District court for the time being or to his successors in office in the just and full sum of one thousand dollars to the true and faithful payment thereof well and truly to be made. We bind ourselves, our heirs, assigns and legal representatives firmly by these presents. Dated February 11th 1862. Now, therefore, if the said Caroline Griffin shall faithfully and impartially discharge all and singular the duties incumbent on her in said capacity and shall faithfully administer said estate and render a true and correct account of all her acts and of all monies or other property received from this or any other state belonging to said estate and whenever legally required so to do pay over all sums of money or other property of said estate to the proper person or persons to receive the same, then this obligation to be null and void otherwise to be and remain in full force and virtue against the principal and the said securities.
