Harrell, a resident of said Parish and State respectfully represents unto your Honor that Levi T. Harrell, late resident of your Parish and State departed this life on or about the twenty fourth day of October AD 1860 intestate in the said Parish, he there being a resident of the same leaving a widow, Rebeca Smith and three children, the issue of their marriage to wit: Jane Victoria and Rebecah Harrell, also leaving an estate consisting of land, stock and other personal property, rights, credits and debts. Petitioner represents that he is the brother of the said deceased. He prays that an inventory and appraisement may be had according to law and that after due proceedings being had, he may be appointed Administrator of the said Estate and for such orders and decrees in the premises as may be necessary and proper. H. Regenburg, Atty. State of Louisiana 12th Judicial District Court Parish of Union The premises considered, it is ordered and decreed that the within application of John H. Harrell to be appointed Administrator of the Estate of Levi T. Harrell, Decd. be advertised according to law. It is further ordered that Wm. C. Smith, parish Recorder and Ex Officio Notary Public in and for said parish and State be and he is authorized to make an Inventory and Appraisement of all the property belonging to the said Estate of Levi T. Harrell, Decd. and due return thereof make to this office without delay. Done and signed in office on this 29th day of October AD 1860. Thos. C. Harrell be and he is appointed Administrator of the Estate of Levi T. Harrell, Decd. and upon his giving Bond and good security and taking the oath prescribed by law that letters do issue to him. Smith, Parish Recorder State of Louisiana Parish of Union Be it remembered that on this the 2nd day of November AD one thousand eight hundred and sixty, in pursuance of an order of the Honorable 12th Judicial District Court in and for the Parish and State aforesaid and to me, William C. Smith, Parish Recorder and Ex Officio Notary Public in and for said Parish directed commanding me to make an inventory and appraisement of all the property both real and personal belonging to the Estate and Succession of Levi T. Harrell, Decd., late a resident of the parish of Union. I repaired to the late residence of the said Decd. assisted by John A. Stringer and Rubin J. Sims, citizens of said Parish duly appointed and sworn by me the said Recorder as appraisers and proceeded to make the following inventory and appraisement to wit: East ½ of South East ¼ Sect. 9, South West ¼ Sec. 10 and North ¼ of North West ¼ of Sec. Fodder more or less apprd. @ 10.00 1 Spinning wheel apprd. @ 3.00 Undivided half of the cotton crop say two bales more or less 60.00 1 Lot farming tools apprd. @ ____7.00 Total amount $1313.50 Having completed the foregoing inventory, I have on this the second day of November AD 1860 closed the same, in testimony whereof, I have caused said appraisers to sign their names hereto with me the said Recorder and in the presence of Robert Beasley and Joseph Williamson, male witnesses of lawful age and domiciliated in said parish of Union, who have hereto signed their names with said appraisers and me the said Recorder on this the day and date above written. Harrell, solemnly swear that I will faithfully and impartially discharge all and singular the duties incumbent on me as Administrator of the Estate of Levi T. Lewis, Clerk Succession of Levi T. Harrell, Decd. State of Louisiana 12th Judicial District Court Parish of Union Whereas, J. P. Harrell has been duly and legally appointed Administrator of the Estate of Levi T. Harrell, Decd. and he has given bond and good security and has taken the oath prescribed by law. Now, therefore, the said John P. Harrell is hereby duly and legally authorized and empowered to do and perform all the appertaining to said appointment according to law. Given under my hand and seal of said court on this the 12th day of November AD 1860. Thos. C. Lewis, Clerk State of Louisiana Parish of Union Know all men by these presents that we, John P. Harrell as principal and John G. Ethridge and John A. Stringer as his securities, are held and firmly bound unto R. W. Richardson, Judge of the 12th Judicial District Court in and for Union parish, State of Louisiana or to his successors in office in the sum of one thousand seven hundred dollars to the true and faithful payment thereof, we bind ourselves, our heirs and assigns in solido on this the 12th day of November AD 1860. The condition of the above obligation is such that whereas the said John P. Harrell has been appointed Administrator of the Estate of Levi T. Harrell, Decd. and he has taken the oath prescribed by law. Now therefore, if the said John P. Harrell shall faithfully administer said Estate and shall do and perform all the acts in and about said Estate and shall render a true and correct account to the Judge of said court or to his successors in office or the legal heirs of said Estate when required legally so to do, then this obligation to be null and void, or otherwise to be and remain in full force and effect against the principal and his said securities. Stringer State of Louisiana Parish of Union To the Honorable the Judge of the twelfth Judicial District Court in and for the Parish of Union, Louisiana. The petition of John P. Harrell, Administrator of the Estate of Levi P. Harrell, Decd., a resident of said Parish respectfully represents that the property of said Estate both real and personal property should in order to settle the debts of the said Estate be sold. He represents that the interest of the Estate demands that the land should be sold on a credit of twelve months. He therefore prays that an order may issue directing the sale of said property as follows: The personal property for cash, provided it brings the appraisement and in case it should not bring the appraisement then on a credit of twelve months. The land on a credit of twelve months with a mortgage retained. Purchasers be required to give their notes with approved security. He also prays for such other ordered and decrees as may be necessary and for general relief. H. Rebgenburg, Atty. State of Louisiana 12th Judicial District Court Parish of Union The premises having been duly considered, it is ordered and decreed that all the property both real and personal belonging to the Estate of Levi T. Harrell, Decd., be sold on the following terms to wit: The personal property be sold for cash provided it brings the appraisement. In case it should not being the appraisement then on a credit of twelve months. The land to be sold on a credit of twelve months, purchasers giving their notes with approved security bearing eight per cent interest from date, with a mortgage to be retained on the land to secure the payment for the same. Done and signed in office on this 17th day of November AD 1860. Thos. C. Lewis, Clerk State of Louisiana Parish of Union Whereas John P. Harrell, Administrator of the estate of Levi T. Harrell, Decd. on this 7th day of January AD 1861 in accordance with an order from the Honorable 12th District Court in and for the parish of Union and after due and lawful advertisement offer for sale at public auction the farm and residence belonging to said estate to wit: 8 ½ of South East ¼ Sec. 9 and South West ¼ Sec. 10 and North ½ of North West ¼ of Sec. No. 15 in T. 21 North Range 3 East containing three hundred and twenty two acres situated in said parish and whereas the said Mrs. Rebecah Harrell made the highest and last bid to wit: eleven hundred dollars, and has complied with the terms of sale by giving her note with good security for the said amount payable to the said Administrator due 12 months of this date bearing even date herewith. Now therefore the said land with all appertences is hereby adjudicated, granted, bargained and sold to her the said Rebeca Harrell, her heirs, and assigns forever.
