The petition of Simmie King, a resident of your said Parish of Union, State of Louisiana with respect represents unto your Honorable Court that James Hayes, late of your Parish of Union and State aforesaid departed this life intestate on or about the twelfth day of April AD 1873 in your Parish of Union leaving a considerable Estate consisting in furniture, cash, rights and credits. Your petitioner represents further that in order to collect the rights and credits and protect the said Estate from decay and waste that it is necessary that an Administration would be had and further she wishes that [unreadable] a relation in the 4th degree and the [unreadable] relation to the deceased James Mayes known in the State or elsewhere and is entitled to the Administrator of his succession and that he has left no decedants or father or mother and that you petitioner is a decendant of the legitimate sister of the deceased James Hayes. Wherefore the premises considered, petitioner prays that an order for and a commission issue directed to W. C. Smith, Recorder of the Parish of Union and Ex Officio Notary Public Authorizing him to take a true and correct inventory of all the property real and personal, rights and credits belonging to the said James Hayes and found within the Parish of Union and to cause an appraisement of the same to be made of the same by two disinterested sworn appraisers of lawful domicile. Petitioner further prays that this application be duly advertised in the Official Journal of the Parish of Union, State of Louisiana and that after all delays necessary in the matter that your petitioner be appointed and confirmed Administratrix of the Succession of James Mayes, deceased and that letters issue accordingly authorizing her to take charge of and administer the same according to the requirements of law. In the matter of the above and foregoing petition after mature consideration and by reason of the law, it is hereby ordered that a commission issue directed to W. C. Smith, Recorder & Ex Officio Notary Public authorizing him to take a true and correct inventory of all the property real and personal, rights and credits belonging to James Mayes, deceased and found within the Parish of Union and to cause a fair appraisement of the same to be made by according to law and that said application be duly and legally advertised. Done and signed in chambers this 22nd day of August 1873. Thos. C. Lewis Parish Judge Parish Court of Union Parish State of Louisiana By reason that the within application of Simmie P. King to be appointed Administratrix of the Estate of James Hayes decd. has been duly and legally advertised for more than ten days prior to this date and that no opposition has been filed thereto. It is therefore ordered and decreed that the said Simmie P. King be and is hereby appointed Administratrix of the said Estate of James Hayes, deceased and that upon her taking the oath required by law and giving bond with good solvent security in the sum of six thousand four hundred dollars. State of Louisiana Parish of Union Be it remembered that on this the eighth day of September AD one thousand eight hundred and twenty three (1873) pursuant to an order issued from the Parish Court in and for the Parish of Union, State of Louisiana and to me William C. Smith, Recorder and Ex Officio Notary Public in and for said Parish and State aforesaid directed authorizing and commanding me to make an inventory and appraisement of the property, rights, and credits belonging to the Estate of James Hayes, decd. late of said Parish and whereas being assisted by Samuel W. Tanner and James A. Manning, males of lawful age and citizens of said parish who being duly appointed and sworn by me as appraisers and in the presence of lawful witnesses proceeded to make said inventory and appraisement according to wit furnished by W. E. Mosely which it is hereto annexed as follows: Cash 2500.00 5 Trunks containing proper clothing 7.50 Notes &c Appraised [NOTE: Next 7 lines are unreadable] Certificate of land Warrant from the U. S. Government for 120 acres land 70.00 Wm. Dixon & Co. note missing, mislaid or lost for $1000.00 apprd. @ 600.00 Account of H. E. Mosely for $1160 apprd. @ 1160.00 1 saddle apprd. @ ____2.50 amounting in the aggregate of $5114.36 Having completed the foregoing inventory of said Estate so far as can be ascertained at this time, I have closed the same in testimony whereof. I have caused said appraisers to sign their names hereto in presence of W. R. Roberts and Thomas R. King, do solemnly swear that I will faithfully and impartially discharge all the duties incumbent on me as Administratrix of the Estate of James Mayes, deceased according to the best of my ability and understanding. King has this day been duly and legally appointed Administratrix of the Estate of James Hayes, deceased and she has given bond with good security and taken the oath required by law. Now therefore the aforesaid Simmie P. King is thereby duly and legally authorized and empowered to do and perform all the acts appertaining to the said appointment according to law. Given under my hand and seal of office this 8th day of September AD 1873. J. W. Reid District Court State of Louisiana Parish Court Parish of Union $6400.00 Know all men by these presents that we Simmie P. King as principal and Simpson W. Ramsey, Wm. A. Darby, W. R. Griffin and James Jones as securities are held and firmly bound unto the Honorable Thomas C. Lewis, Judge of the Parish Court of Union Parish, Louisiana and unto his successors in office in the just and full sum of six thousand four hundred dollars to the true and faithful payment of which we bind ourselves, our heirs, administrators and legal representatives firmly and in solido by these presents. Dated at Farmerville on this 8th day of September AD 1873. The condition of the abov4e obligation is such that whereas the above bound Simmie P. King has this day been duly and legally appointed Administratrix of the Estate of James Hayes, deceased and she has taken the oath required by law. Now therefore if the above bound Simmie P. King as principal shall faithfully and impartially discharge all the duties incumbent on her as Administratrix of said Estate and shall render to the Judge of the aforesaid Court a true and correct account of all her acts and doings in and about said Estate and that when legally required so to do, pay over all sums of money and deliver all the property of whatever nature that she may have in her hands belonging to said Estate to the proper person or persons to receive the same. Then this obligation to be null an dvoid. Otherwise to be and remain in full force and effect according to law. Done and signed and acknowledged before me this the day and date above written. J. W.
