Hinton, Decd., Union Parish Louisiana Union Parish Louisiana Succession Book E, pp. 683 - 688 ================================================================================== NOTE: John J. Hinton served in Company G, 31st Louisiana Infantry Regiment as a sergeant. He was present for duty during 1862 and early 1863, serving during the Vicksburg Campaign. He was present for duty when his regiment surrendered at Vicksburg on 4 July 1863. He was paroled with the others from his unit within that week. Since his widow stated that he died in September 1863, he either died after returning home or he performed some other military dury after his parole rather than returning home as did the vast majority of the others captured at Vicksburg. ================================================================================== To the Honorable the Judge of the 11th Judicial District Court in and for the Parish of Union, State of Louisiana.
