The Petition of John Culbertson, a resident of your said State and Parish with respect represents unto your Honor that Westley Y. Hughs, late of your said Parish departed this life on or about the 1st day of November 1844 intestate leaving his wife and the following minor children David B., Mary Ann, Franklin and one unnamed born since the death of the said Hughs and having a small Estate consisting of personal property not worth as much as five hundred. Petitioner further avers that he is father in Law of the said Hughs and rises as a friend to settle said Estate. Wherefore Petitioner prays your Honor that he be appointed Administrator of the said Estate and that he be admitted to render in an inventory of the property of the said Estate and that the same be administered in a summary manner and that he be allowed to pay off the debts of the said Estate according to the funds of said Estate, and for all said orders and decrees as the nature of the case may require and for general relief &c. John Culbertson Let the prayer of the Petitioner be granted and it is further ordered that John Culbertson be appointed Administrator of the Estate of Westley Y. Hughs, deceased and he be authorized to administer the same in a summary manner, it being worth less than five hundred Dollars and that letters issue. Y Hughs You Petitioner further represents that the proceeds of sales and the funds belonging to said succession in the hand of your petitioner to pay the said debts amounts to $237.25 Amount of privilege debts as allowed and placed in the foregoing statement __187.74 Leaving the sum of $ 49.51 To pay the ordinary debts and leaves 33 ½ cents to pay on each dollar of the ordinary debts. Your petitioner prays that the foregoing statement and distribution be filed that after legal notice the same be approved and homologated and that your petitioner be allowed to pay the said debts according to the table of distribution out of the said funds and for general relief as in duty bound. John Culbertson By reason of the Law and evidence in this case and by further reason of their being no opposition filed, the having been advertised over ten days, it is ordered, adjudged and decreed by the Court that the same approved and allowed and that he pay the debts as prayed for. Done and signed in chambers on this 20th March 1846. Hughs, Deceased and having taken the oath prescribed by Law now therefore he is hereby authorized and fully empowered to discharge all and singular the duties appertaining to the said appointment and to settle the same in a summary way, it being worth less than five hundred dollars.
