William Hunt (11 Mar 1806 - 18 Aug 1897) and Teresa Holcombe (1 Apr 1808 - 6 Apr 1874). His parents had married in Jefferson County Alabama on 5 June 1825. About 1840, the Hunts, together with ther related families of Holcombe and Rockett, all moved to northern Mississippi, with William and Teresa settling in Lafayette County, not too far from Water Valley. There, on 25 October 1849, Alva J. Hunt married Laura Ann Rockett (13 June 1831 - 13 Jan 1867), the daughter of James Rockett (1792-1857) and Eudocia Holcombe (1809-1879). Alva and Laura were first cousins, as their mothers Teresa and Eudocia Holcombe were sisters. William Hunt moved his family to Spearsville in 1854, settling near Spearsville. The family joined the Spearsville Baptist Church, where Alva served as clerk and church treasurer. Alva J. Hunt enlisted as a corporal in the "Sparrow Cadets", a unit formed in the spring of 1862 in the Spearsville region for the Confederate war effort. This unit became Company I, 31st Regiment Louisiana Infantry. They trained near Monroe in the late spring and summer of 1862. Typical of military units in that era, a wave of disease struck soon after the men formed in camps. Alva J. Hunt died of measles on 5 September 1862. His widow remarried to William Elisha Upshaw in 1864, and he is the man to petitions below to be appointed as the administrator of Hunt's estate. ================================================================================= ================================================================================= Union Parish Louisiana Succession Book F, pp. 141 - 143 ================================================================================= ================================================================================= To the Honorable Judge of the 11th Judicial District Court in and for the Parish of Union, State of Louisiana.
