Notes: Robert Francis Farrar was the son of Henry Y. Farrar and his first wife Sally Webb. (His second wife was Obediance Kelly). Robert was born Sept 13, 1830 in Perry County, AL and died June 6, 1907 in Union Parish LA. He married Maneta V Wood on November 5, 1857 in Union Parish, LA. Maneta was the daughter of John Wood and Janetta Cole. The Farrars came to Union Parish about 1846 from Marion, Perry Co AL. Robert F. Farrar served in the Confederate Army, Pvt. Co. E, 31st La Infantry, enrolled May 3, 1862, Monroe, La. He was present on roll for January and February 1863. Federal rolls of prisoners of war show him captured and paroled at Vicksburg, MS, July 4, 1863. He again appears on a list dated Hdqrs. Allen's Brigade, Shreveport, La, March 29, 1864. Reported in camp for exchange at Vienna, LA before April 1, 1864. (s. Louisiana Confederate Military Records) A family story says that when he came home following his final release at the end of the war he had to walk home. When he arrived, he was so dirty and thin that his wife Maneta didn't recognize him and went out the front door with her shotgun ready to shoot the intruder. His dog, however, recognized him and went running out to meet him! From that dog's actions, Maneta knew that he was not an intruder, but Robert. Robert and Maneta had 9 Children: Sallie J. Farrar, b.
