The petition of Mrs. Amanda S. Huffman, a resident of your aforesaid Parish and State respectfully shows that her father James G. Leggin, late of the same residence departed this life intestate at his residence in the Parish of Union aforesaid on or about the 17th day of January 1871 leaving a small estate consisting of land, personal property, rights, debts and credits and leaving the following heirs to wit: Mahala T. Leggin, Decd. but represented by her children living in the state of Arkansas, James L. Leggin, Decd. but represented by eleven children living in the Parish of Union aforesaid, Narcissa E. Leggin, the wife of Charles R. Launer who lives in the State of Texas together with your petitioner, four in all who were and are the children and sole heirs of the said James G. Leggin, Decd. Petitioner represents that an administration of said Estate is necessary and that she is the sole surviving child and beneficiary heir of her deceased father present in the State. Whereupon she prays that this her application be advertised according to law and after the legal delays, she be appointed Administratrix of the Estate of James G. Leggin, decd. She further prays that an inventory and appraisement of said Estate be made according to law and that an attorney be appointed to represent the absent heirs and for all further orders and decrees necessary in the premises and for general relief &c. Jno. L. Barrett Atty. for Petr. Parish Court of the Parish of Union, La. The premises considered, it is hereby ordered, adjudged and decreed that the prayers of the foregoing petitioner be granted. That the application of Amanda S. Huffman to be appointed Administratrix of the Estate of James G. Leggin, Decd. be advertised according to law. That W. C. Smith, Parish Recorder and Notary Public make an Appraisement and Inventory of said Estate and due return thereof make to his court and further that [blank] be appointed attorney of the absent heirs of the Estate of James G. Premises considered, and by reason of the proper and legal advertisement has been made and no opposition having been filed thereto, it is ordered that Mrs. Amanda S. Huffman be appointed Administratrix of the Estate of James G. Leggin, Decd. and upon her taking the oath required by law that letters of Administration issue to her according to law. Smith, Recorder State of Louisiana Parish of Union Be it remembered that on this the 15th day of February AD 1871, one thousand eight hundred and seventy one pursuant to an order of the Honorable the Judge of the Parish Court in and for the said parish and to me William C. Smith, Recorder and Ex Officio Notary Public in and for said parish directed authorizing and commanding me to make an inventory and appraisement of the property belonging to the Estate and Succession of James G. Leggin, Decd., late of the Parish of Union and whereas being assisted by J. J. Norris and John B. Green as appraisers who being duly appointed to the late residence of said decd. and then make an appraisement of the property presented to them by the heirs of said deceased. We therefore proceeded to make a complete Inventory and appraisement at my office in the Town of Farmerville as hereinafter set forth to wit: 1 promissory note signed by T. S. Morrison and G. B. Smith, Recorder State of Louisiana 11th Judicial District Court Parish of Union $3320.00 Know all men by these presence that we, Amanda S. Huffman as principal and John B. Green, John J. Norris, Henry S. Leggin, Tolephus J. Leggin as securities, are held and firmly bound unto the Honorable Parish Judge of the Court in and for Union Parish, La. for the time being or to his successors in office in the just and full sum of three thousand three hundred and twenty dollars to the true and full payment thereof we bind ourselves, our heirs, executors, administrators and legal representatives firmly and in solido by these presence. Dated at Farmerville, La. this 15th day of February AD 1871. The condition of this obligation is such that whereas the said Amanda S. Huffman has been duly and legally appointed and confirmed as Administratrix of the Estate of James G. Leggin, Deceased and she has taken the oath required by law. Now therefore, if the said Amanda S. Huffman shall faithfully and impartially discharge all the duties incumbent on her as Administratrix of the said Estate and shall render to the Judge of said Court a true account of all her acts or doings in and about said Estate and shall when legally required so to do pay over all sums of money and deliver all the proper belongings to the said Estate to the proper person or persons to receive the same. Leggin, deceased and she has given bond with good security and taken the oath prescribed by law. Now therefore, the said Amanda S. Huffman is hereby duly and legally authorized and empowered to do and perform all the acts appertaining to the said appointment according to law. The petition of Amanda S. Huffman, Administratrix of the Estate of James G. Leggin, deceased respectfully represents that all of the stock and produce and other perishable property of said Estate ought to be sold at once and further that it is advisable to rent out the plantation for the current year at public outcry. Wherefore you petitioner prays for an order from the court authorizing her to sell at once according to law all the perishable property of said estate of J. G. Leggin, decd. and also to rent the farm for the current year to the highest bidder and for all further orders and decrees necessary in the premises and for general relief &c. Jno. L. Leggin, Decd. be authorized to sell at public auction according to law all the perishable property of said Estate and further she be authorized to rent the place for the current year to the highest bidder. Tompkins Parish Judge State of Louisiana Parish of Union Pursuant to an order of the Parish Court of Union Parish, Louisiana directed to me and authorizing a sale of all the personable and perishable property of the Estate of James G. Leggin, Decd. and authorizing the renting out of the land and said Estate for the current year 1871. Now therefore having made the legal advertisement by posting at the court house door of the Parish of Union and two other public places in said Parish for more than ten days prior to the sale. (There being no newspaper published at this present time in said Parish) and read the said advertisement and made known the terms of sale in a loud voice in the hearing of all present at the late residence of said James G. Leggin, Decd. on Saturday, the 25th of February between the legal hours of sale. I caused to be offered to the last and highest bidder at public auction the following property of said Estate and after crying the same for a sufficient length of time the following persons being the last and highest bidder became the purchasers as follows: J. Fuller rented another tract also to be marked hereinafter @ $.50 per acre amount be paid out of the crop of each Now therefore all the purchasers having completed with the terms of the sale and paid cash for their purchases except the heirs who decline to settle until a final partition of the Estate.
