The petition of David Hendrick, Resident of your said Parish with respect represents to your Honor that Royland Manning of Monroe County and State of Alabama departed this life on or about the first day of February Eighteen Hundred and thirty two leaving the following minor children to wit: William T. H. Manning and Harriet E. Manning, also a considerable Estate consisting of personal property and whereas letters of Guardianship for the said minor children was granted to your Petitioner by the County Court of the said County of Monroe and State of Alabama on the thirteenth day of February Eighteen Hundred and thirty two and whereas by virtue of law the said Guardianship was on the twenty fifth day of June Eighteen Hundred and thirty two removed to the County of Hindes and State of Mississippi and letters of Guardianship for the said minor children granted to your petitioner on the said Twenty fifth day of June Eighteen hundred and thirty two by the Probate Court of the said County of Hindes and State of Mississippi and whereas the personal property of the said minor children with the increase thereof on inventory of which is hereunto annexed has since been removed to the State of Louisiana and Parish of Union and now in the possession of your petitioner. Your Petitioner therefore prays to be appointed Tutor of the said minor children (to wit) William T. H. Manning and Harriet E. Manning and that James E. Jones be appointed Under tutor in the granting of which petitioner as in duty bound your Petitioner ever prays. Jones be appointed Under tutor of said minors and that letters issue. Done and signed in Chambers on this 27th day of February AD 1844. John Taylor Judge of Probates The following is a true and correct inventory of the property and effects of William T. H. Manning, a minor heir of Royland Manning, Decd. including the amount received from the Estate of Obedience Manning (to wit) One Negro woman named Chany, Thirty six years old, appraised to be worth $500.00 One Negro boy named Harry, nine years old, appraised to be worth 275.00 One Negro girl named Emily, five years old, Appraised to be worth 200.00 One Negro girl named Harriett, three years old, Appraised to be worth 175.00 One Negro boy named Jefferson to be [blank] Years old, appraised to be worth ___175.00 $1325.00 One promissory note on James E. Jones for the sum of 400.00 Money now in the hands of the Tutor 184.97 ¼ The following is a true and correct inventory of the property and effects belonging to Harriet E. Manning, a minor heir of Royland Manning, decd. including the amount received from the Estate of Obedience Manning to wit: One Negro man named Nathan, twenty six years old Appraised to be worth 600.00 One Negro boy named Nelson, twelve years old Appraised to be worth 400.00 One promissory note on hand on James E. Jones for The sum of 1000.00 Money now in the hands of the Tutor 498.16 ¼ The whole amount of William T. H. Manning appraised to sixteen hundred and eighty three dollars, it being his portion as rendered in by his Tutor David Hendrick and also Nineteen hundred and one dollars, it being the portion of Harriet E. Manning’s as rendered by her Tutor David Hendrick, the whole of the inventory amounting to three thousand five hundred and eighty four dollars. In testimony whereof said parties, appraisers, have signed their names together with the undersigned witnesses and David Hendrick who gave in the property and me judge on this 27th day of February AD 1844. The condition of the above obligation is such that whereas the above bounden David Hendrick has been appointed Tutor of Harriett E. Manning, minor child of Royland Manning, Deceased. Now therefore if the said David Hendrick shall well and truly perform and discharge all and singular the duties incumbent on him in his capacity as aforesaid agreeably to law and shall account to said Judge or the said minor or her attorney or attorneys when required so to do and under a true and faithful account of his trust, then and in that case this obligation to be null and void. Jones his security acknowledge to owe and be indebted unto John Taylor, Judge of Probates in and for said Parish and his successors in office in the sum of Twenty one hundred and three dollars to the payment whereof well and truly to be made, we bind ourselves, our heirs, Executors, Administrators and assigns firmly by these presents dated this 27th day of February AD 1844. T. H. Manning and Harriet E. Manning. To the Honorable George W. Copley, Judge of the 12th Judicial District Circuit Court for the Parish of Union, State of Louisiana. The petition of John Odom, a resident of your said Parish and State with due respect shows on the 17th day of Feb. 1846 he was appointed by the Honorable John Taylor, Judge of the Probate Court for the said Parish of Union, Tutor of the minor heirs of Rayland Manning, decd. to wit: W. T. H. Manning & Harriet E. Manning & that in an Inventory of the property belonging to each of the minors is continued and set apart in the account of final settlement and allowance rendered to the said Probate Court on the 4th day 1846, which is now a matter of record and on file. Your petitioner represents that James E. Louis was appointed Under tutor & further shows that the above minors have both become of lawful age and put by your petitioner in possession of their property and effects belonging to each as will appear by their receipts herewith entitled and the object for which he was appointed Tutor as aforesaid having been performed he is and issued to be released & discharged fro his tutorship of said minors & his bond cancelled for all of which he prays your Honorable Court and for general relief in the premises as in duty bound &c. John Odom In the matter of the Tutorship of the minor children of Rayland Manning, decd. By reason of the law and the evidence in this case and by reason of John Odom, Tutor having filed no Court evidence of the said minor children having arrived at majority & been part in possession of the property as on awarded by receipt signed by them. It is ordered by the Court that he be discharged from the office of Tutor to said minors and his bond be cancelled. Done & signed in open court this 8th November AD 1849. Geo. W. Winas having obtained to lawful age by means of my marriage with the said Robert W. Winas do hereby certify that I have this day recd. of John Odom Tutor for the minor heirs of Rayland Manning, decd. all the property & effects belonging & accruing to me as one of the minor heirs of Rayland Manning, Decr. 29th 1848.
