He was born about 1816 in Alabama. Ezekiel Martin served in William's Company, Louisiana Reserve Corps, a group of men constripted for military service by the State of Louisiana during the period following the surrender of Vicksburg. These men were rounded up for service to the Confederate forces in the state in 1864 and early 1865. Martin received a parole at Monroe on 6 June 1865, when he gave his residence as Ouachita Parish. ================================================================================== ================================================================================== Parish of Union 11th District Court The petition of Daniel J. Martin, a resident of your said State of Louisiana & Parish of Union with respect represents that Ezekiel Martin, Decd. late a resident of the Parish of Ouachita and said state died in the month of February 1866 leaving four minor children to wit: John A. Martin, George C. Martin and Samuel Martin and Isabella E. Martin, who now reside in your said parish with your petitioner who is their elder brother and the only one of the children who has arrived at majority, the mother of said minors and your petitioner having died in the year 1850. Petitioner represents that his father and the father of said minors Ezekiel martin, Decd. left a succession, which was administered by A. F. Fourney, a resident of the Parish of Ouachita that the said Administration has been closed the final account of the Administrator homologated and the proceeds of said Succession are now in the hands of the Administrator. Premises considered, petitioner prays that he be appointed Tutor of his said brothers and sister and that Henry Wilson be appointed Under Tutor and finally he prays for all orders and decrees necessary and for general relief. Martin be and he is hereby appointed tutor to the following named minor heirs of the Estate of Ezekiel Martin, Decd. to wit: John H., George C., Samuel and Isabella E. Martin upon his giving bond and taking the oath required by law, that letters do issue to him and that Henry Wilson be and he is hereby appointed Under tutor to the said minors upon his taking the oath required by law in said cases. Done and signed in office this 13th day of November AD 1866. J. W. Reid, Clerk State of Louisiana Eleventh Judicial District Court Parish of Union I, Daniel J. Martin, do solemnly swear that I will faithfully and impartially discharge all the duties incumbent upon me as Tutor of the following named minor children to wit: John H., George C., Samuel and Isabella E. Martin, heirs of the Estate of Ezekiel Martin, Deceased according to the best of my ability and understanding. So help me God. D. J. State of Louisiana Parish of Union Eleventh Judicial District Court Whereas, Daniel J. Martin has been duly and legally appointed Tutor of the following minor children to wit: John H., George C., Samuel and Isabella E. Martin, heirs of the Estate of Ezekiel Martin, Deceased and he has taken the oath prescribed by law and given bond with good security. Now therefore, the said Daniel J. Martin is hereby duly and legally authorized and empowered to do and perform all the acts appertaining to the said appointment according to law. Given under my hand and seal of office this 15th day of November AD 1867. J. W. Reid Clerk, District Court State of Louisiana Eleventh District Court Parish of Union $1250 Know all men by these presents that we J. D. Martin as principal and Austin Martin and N. S. Nelson as his securities are held and firmly bound unto the Honorable J. D. Watkins, Judge of said Court or to his successors in office in the just and full amount sums of Twelve hundred and fifty dollars to a true and faithful payment whereof well and truly to be made, we bind ourselves, our heirs, assigns and legal representatives firmly and in solido date this 15th day of November AD 1867. The consideration of the above obligation is such that whereas the above bounden Daniel J. martin has this day been duly and legally appointed and confirmed as Tutor to the following named minor children heirs of the Estate of Ezekiel Martin, Decd. to wit: John H., George C., Samuel and Isabella E. Martin and he has taken the oath required by law. Now therefore if the above bound Daniel J. Martin shall faithfully and impartially discharge and perform all the duties incumbent on him as Tutor to the said minors and shall diligently look after their interests at all times and shall whenever required so to do pay over all sums of money and deliver all the property that may be in his hands belonging to the said minors to the proper person or persons to receive the same and shall render an account of all his acts and doings in said tutorship to the Judge of said court whenever required so to do. Then, and in that case, this obligation to be null and void. Otherwise, to be and remain in full force and virtue according to law. Done and acknowledged before me this day and date above written.
