Parish of Union

    Before me Reuben Ellis Recorder and ex-officio Notary Public in and for 
Said Parish and State who declares and acknowledges that She has this day 
made constituted and appoiinted I. F. McAdams a resident of Union County, 
State of Arkansas her attorney and agent for her and in her name to 
Receive and procure for her a certain head right of Settlement in the State of 
Texas who the said Margaret Lawler being the Surviving wife of John Lawler 
who immigrated and Settled in the now State of Texas in the year 1838 and her 
said husband being Deceased.  She does by this presents empower the said I. 
F. McAdams to do all such acts that would be Legally necessary for her to do 
to acquire Said Head Right of Settlement made by his and her said husband in 
the  aforesaid year as fully and as effectually as if the same had been done 
by her in person and to sign her name for her and in her name and do all such 
acts that the Laws may require in Such cases she also does by these presents 
empower him to collect and receivre and receipt for all the effects of her 
and her said husband John Lawler now situated in the State of Texas and to do 
all such acts Legally to procure the Same for her and in her name She hereby 
allowing, admitting and accepting all such acts so done by her said attorney 
I. F. McAdams in the premises as fully as if done by her in person.  I 
testimony whereof the said party Margaret Lawler has hereunto signed her name 
in the presence of C. T. Barton and Jule Underwood and Lawful Witnesses of 
Said Parish and me the Said Recorder on this the 12th day of December 1850.

NOTE:  John Lawler and Margaret Furgeson were married 1/13/1815 in Madison 
County, AL.   In the 1850 and 1860 Union Parish, LA Census Margaret was 
living with the James T. McAdams Family.  It is believed that James' wife 
Julia was the daughter of John and Margaret Lawler, but we have found no 
definitive documentation to prove this.
