The petition of Pauline Breard, widow McKay of the Parish of Union respectfully represents to your Honor that her husband William McKay, late of this Parish deceased departed this life intestate at his residence on the Ouachita River in said Parish on Monday 10th Instant leaving your petitioner his widow and relict and one child, issue of his marriage with your Petitioner Anne C. McKay, Born 19th March 1837 beside a considerable Estate of property real and personal, rights and credits, accounts and chattels, lands and tenements. She prays your Honor to make an Inventory and Appraisement of all said decedents Estate and to appoint her Administratrix of said Estate and that she may be confirmed as Natural Tutrix of her child and grant such other and further relief as may be necessary and proper as in duly bound. Pauline Bread, Widow McKay State of Louisiana Parish of Union Let the prayer of the within Petition be granted and that Pauline Breard, Widow of William McKay, Deceased be appointed Administratrix of said Estate and also be confirmed as Natural Tutrix of her child minor issue by marriage with the said decedent Ann C. McKay and it is further ordered that an Inventory and Appraisement be made June 17th AD 1839 and let Saml. A. Breard be appointed Under Tutor and that letters issue. State of Louisiana Parish of Union Be it remembered that on this 21st day of June AD 1839, that I John Taylor, Parish Judge and Ex Officio Notary Public in and for said Parish and State having received official information of the death of William McKay who departed this life intestate at his residence in the Parish of Union on the 10th of this Instant 1839, leaving his widow and relict Pauline Breard and the following named child minor issue by his marriage with said Pauline McKay to wit, Ann C. McKay born 19th March 1837, besides having a considerable Estate of property, real and personal, rights, credits, goods and chattels, lands and tenements and for the purpose of making an Inventory and Appraisement of said decedents Estate. I have repaired to residence of said decedent and for the purpose as aforesaid, I have appointed A. M. Jones, James A. Harvey, residents and free holders of said Parish appraisers to appraise all the property comprising said decedent’s Estate and when after being well and duly sworn by me the said Judge well and truly to do and perform all and singular the matters and things herein according to Law have proceeded as follows together with me the said Judge and undersigned witnesses and parties. We and each of us do solemnly swear that we will to the best of our understanding appraise all the property comprising the Estate and Succession of William McKay, Deceased so [?] as will be shown or may come to our knowledge. McKay, Decd. and confirmed as Natural Tutrix of her minor child issue by her marriage with said decedent to wit: Ann C. McKay and having given Bond and Security and taken the oath as prescribed by law. Now therefore she is hereby authorized and full empowered to discharge and perform all and singular the duties appertaining to the said appointment according to law. Beard has been appointed Under Tutor of Ann C. McKay, minor child of Wm. McKay, Decd. and having given Bond and Security, and taken the oath as prescribed by law. Now therefore he is hereby authorized and fully empowered to discharge and perform all and singular the duties appertaining to the said appointment according to law. In Testimony whereof, I have hereunto signed my name and affixed my seal of office on this 22nd day of June AD 1839. The Petition of Pauline Bread now widow McKay a resident of your said Parish with respect represents unto your Honor. That she has been lately appointed by your Honorable Court Administratrix of the Estate of her Deceased Husband William McKay, and she further represents unto your Honor that there is belonging to said Estate a considerable quantity of Personal and moveable Property which is liable to waste and deterioration and very Expensive to keep and which it would be greatly to the Interest of said Estate to have sold, and your Petitioner also represents that it is her belief at present it would be to the Interest of said Estate to make the sale of the said moveable and Personal property on a credit say until the 1st day of April 1840 for all sums of Twenty five Dollars and over and for all sums under twenty five dollars Cash. McKay, Deceased and having caused an Inventory and appraisement to be made of all the property of said decedent and having the same exposed to sale that in consequence of the original appraisement of said issue being above the real value and the Law prohibiting the sale to take place when the property does not bring the appraisement said property did not sell. I have on this day repaired to the late resident of the decedent for the purpose of making an Inventory and re- appraisement of said Estate and for the purpose aforesaid, I have appointed Wm. C. Carr and Peter I. Harvey, residents and free holders of said parish appraisers to re-appraise all the property comprising said decedent’s Estate and where after being well and duly sworn by me said Judge well and truly to do and perform all and singular matters and things herein according to Law have proceeded as follows together with me the said Judge undersigned witnesses and parties.
