T. Melton enlisted as a private in Company F, 13th Battalion Louisiana Infantry, the Partisan Rangers. He enlisted as Homer, in Claiborne Parish, on 25 July 1862. He was present on the roll for January/February 1863, and the roll for March/June 30 1863 showed that he died 18 May 1863. This man was undoubtedly C. The petition of George Sawyer, a resident of said Parish and State respectfully represents that Troy Melton, late of same Parish departed this life on or about the year AD 1863 leaving an estate consisting of land, stock and personal property, also a widow in community and a minor child, William Melton. Petitioner represents that no steps have been taken by any person to administer said Estate and that it is necessary that an Administration should be had to pay the debts owed and to settle the succession. He therefore prays that an inventory and appraisement may be had and that after due proceedings he may be appointed Administrator of said Estate and for such other orders and decrees as may be necessary in the premises. Sawyer to be appointed Administrator of the Estate of Troy Melton, Decd. be advertised according to law. It is further ordered that W. C. Smith, Parish Recorder and Ex Officio Notary Public be and he is truly authorized to make an Inventory and Appraisement of all the property belonging to the said succession and due return thereof make to this office. Watkins, Judge of the Eleventh Judicial District Court in and for the Union Parish, La. for the time being or to his successors in office in the just and full sum of nine hundred and eighty six dollars to the true and full payment we bind our heirs, executors, administrators and legal representatives firmly and in solido by these presents. Dated Farmerville, La. this 9th day of November AD 1866. The condition of this obligation is such that whereas the said George W. Sawyer has been duly and legally appointed and confirmed as Administrator of the Estate of Troy Melton, Deceased and he has taken the oath required by law. Now therefore if the said George W. Sawyer shall faithfully and impartially discharge all the duties incumbent on him as Administrator of the said Estate and shall render to the Judge of said court a true and correct account of all his acts and doings in and about said Estate and shall whenever legally required so to do pay over all sums of money and deliver all the property belonging to the said succession to the proper person or persons to receive the same, then this obligation to be null and void, otherwise to be and remain in full force according to law. W. Sawyer, Administrator of the Estate of C. Troy Milton, Decd., after first having made lawful publications or posting notices the properties of the newspaper published in said parish having refused to make the said notices prescribed by law proceeded to offer for sale at public auction the real Estate belonging to said Estate to wit: The residence of the deceased and appurtenances described in the records of the land office as the North East quarter of the South East quarter of Section No. Eleven, the west half and the North East quarter of the South West quarter and the West half of the South East quarter of Section No. twelve and the North West quarter of the North East quarter of Section No. thirteen all in Township No. twenty two North of Range no. three West containing three hundred and twenty four acres and 37/100 acres more or less as described in receipt duplicate No. 3585 land office at Monroe to which amount of land is added about fife acres more or less of the South West quarter of the North East Quarter of Section No. 12 and deducting there from all [unreadable] of the above described tract of land situated East of the Bayou called Little Cornie which also is supposed to be about five acres more or less and which was deeded by the deceased to Wm. Hudson in exchange for the aforesaid five acre tract and there after offering the said tract of land and crying the sale a proper time and leaving all the bids made the same was adjudicated to William Thompson, he being the highest and last bidder, he bidding two dollars for the same. Now therefore the said William Thompson having complied with the conditions of sale by paying he sum of six hundred and forty eight dollars in cash, the said above name land is hereby adjudicated, granted, bargained and sold unto him the said William Thompson, his heirs and assigns for ever. In testimony whereof, I the said Administrator have signed these present on this fourth day of January Ad one thousand eight hundred and sixty seven with H. Regenburg and C. C. The petition of George W. Sawyer, Administrator of the Estate of C. Troy Melton, Decd. respectfully represents that the following debts against the Estate have been prescribed for payment and acknowledged as just to wit: 1st A note due Mrs. E. Buice for $287.20 due January 1st 1863 with credits January 1/63 $2.50 and January 1/66 $3.38 2nd A note due W. L. Spears for $13.16 due January 1st 1862 with credit of $3.00 3rd Recorders claims and attorneys fees in the necessary proceedings. Petitioner represents that he has on hand sufficient to pay all the debts presented and prays for an order of your Honorable Court homologating the above statement or Tableau of Debts and ordinary the payment of the same and for such other orders and decrees as may be necessary and proper. Reid, Clerk sworn says that he was the acting clerk of the District Court in January last and that said account was filed January 5th 1867 and has been advertised for more than thirty days prior to this date by publication in the Union Record, a weekly newspaper published in the Town of Farmerville, La. and by posting at the door of the Court House in said Parish of Union and State aforesaid and that no opposition has been filed to the homologation of the same. Petitioner represents that this account to the widow in community Polly M. Lenord [sic] and a minor child of deceased William Milton and prays that they may be recognized as such and he be permitted to pay over to them the amount due. He further prays that this account be homologated and for payment of said amount against him as Administrator as his security according to the account and that his bond be canceled and for general relief.
