Morrow and his wife Mary were born born about 1829 in Alabama. In 1860, they lived on a plantation near Shiloh, with their real estate valued at $4480 and personal estate at $7485. He owned ten slaves, consisting of one family. Joseph H. Morrow served as a private in Company E, 12th Louisiana Infantry Regiment, enlisting on 3 March 1863 at Vienna. He was present through June, but reported as absent without leave since 28 August 1863. The September/October 1863 muster roll reported that he deserted on August 28th. I have no further information regarding his actions or whereabouts over the next year, or the events surrounding his death in July 1864. ================================================================================== ================================================================================== ================================================================================== ================================================================================== Union Parish Louisiana Succession Book E, pp. 726 - 731 ================================================================================== ================================================================================== To the Honorable the Judge of the 11th Judicial District Court in and for the Parish of Union, State of Louisiana The petition of Mary Henry, widow of Joseph H. Morrow, late of said Parish and Joshua S. Lovelady, a resident of said Parish respectfully represents Joseph H. Morrow, late of said Parish departed this life on the 20th day of July 1864 absent from his home, intestate leaving petitioner Mary Henry a widow in community and minor children to wit: Joseph H., Sarah, Robert, Charles, Alabama, and William Morrow. Also leaving an estate consisting of land, Negroes, personal property, rights and credits. Petitioner prays that an inventory and appraisement of the said Estate may be had according to law and that after due and legal proceedings had, they may be appointed joint administrators of the said estate and for such other orders and decrees in the premises as may be necessary. State of Louisiana 11th District Court Parish of Union It is hereby ordered that the above application be advertised according to law. It is further ordered that William C. Smith, Parish Recorder &c be and he is hereby authorized to make an inventory of all the property belonging to the Estate of Joseph H. Morrow, Decd. and due return thereof make to this office. Morrow, Decd. and that upon their giving bond with good security and taking the oath prescribed by law that letters as such do issue to them. Cox and Charles Henry as their securities are held and firmly bound unto Honorable W. B. Egan, Judge of the 11th Judicial District court in and for the Parish of Union, State of Louisiana for the time being or to his successors in office in the full and just sum of Eleven thousand and three hundred ($11,200) dollars to the true and faithful payment thereof well and truly to be made, we bind ourselves our heirs, assigns, executors and legal representatives firmly by these presents. Date in Union Parish, La. on this the 31st day of December AD 1864. The consideration of the above obligation is such that whereas the above bounden Mary Morrow and John S. Lovelady have been duly and legally appointed and confirmed as joint administrators of the Estate of Joseph H. Morrow, Decd. and they have taken the oath prescribed by law. Now therefore if the said Mary Morrow and John S. Lovelady shall faithfully and impartially perform all the duties incumbent on them as Administrators of said Estate and shall render to the Judge of the said court a true and correct accounting of all their acts and doings in and about said matter of Administration and shall faithfully account for all monies or other property belonging to the said Estate from this or any other state and shall whenever legally required so to do pay over all sums of money and deliver all the property of whatever nature belonging to the said Estate to the proper person or persons to receive the same then and in that case the above obligation to be null and void. The petition of Mary Morrow, a resident of your said Parish of Union and State of Louisiana respectfully shows that Joseph Morrow and Robert Morrow, Charles Morrow, Alabama Morrow and William Morrow are her legitimate children, issue of her marriage with Joseph H. Morrow, Decd. That she is their Natural Tutrix and she therefore prays your Honorable Court that she be recognized and confirmed as the Natural Tutrix of said minor children and she could suggest that Scott Lovelady be appointed Under Tutor to same minors and that letters of Tutorship issue in accordance with the prayer and for all necessary orders and for general relief &c.
