The Petition of Thos. VanHook, a resident of your said Parish with respect represents unto your Honor that on or about the 17th day of June instant Francis Muldoon, late of your said Parish departed this life intestate and leaving no legal heirs in said State known to your petitioner and leaving a small Estate consisting of real and personal property, rights and credits. Wherefore your petitioner prays your Honor to appoint him Curator of said Estate and that an inventory be made of the Property of said Estate and that the same be settled in a summary manner as the said Estate is thought to be insolvent and for all such other orders and decrees as the nature of the case may require and for general relief. Thos. VanHook In pro persona Let the prayer of the within petition be granted and it is further ordered that Thos. VanHook, Notary Public cause an inventory and appraisement of said Estate to be made and return the same to my office. Done and signed in Chambers on this 22nd June AD 1844. John Taylor Probate Judge It appearing from the inventory that the Estate of Francis Muldoon is under five hundred dollars. It is ordered and decreed that Thomas VanHook settle the same in a summary named as Curator of said Estate. Done and signed in Chambers on this the 29th day of July AD 1844. John Taylor Probate Judge State of Louisiana Parish of Union I, Thomas VanHook, a notary public duly commissioned and sworn in and for the parish of Union pursuant to an order of the Honorable John Taylor, Judge of Probates in and for said Parish appointing and authorizing me the said Notary to take an inventory of the Property & Estate Frances Muldoon, Deceased proceeded to make an inventory of the property of the said Estate which could be found on the 24th day of June 1844 at the Town of Farmerville in the said Parish in the presence of Jas. H. Carson and Jas. B. S. Lawson witnesses of lawful age and domiciled in said parish and also appointed Malcom McFarland and Thos. N. Penick as appraisers who was duly and legally sworn by me the said Notary to appraise the Property of the Estate according to the best of their understanding as exhibited to them to wit: 1 Lot of Carpenter tools apprd. @ $40.00 1 Grind stone 4.00 1 safe partly finished 10.00 1 Lot & shop 100.00 1 Lot of window frames, shutters & sash 10.00 1 Lot of window frames, shutters & sash 6.00 1 Lot gum lumber at $2 per 100 ft. VanHook has been appointed Curator of the vacant Estate of Frances Muldoon, Deceased by the Judge of Probates of said parish to settle said Estate up in a summary manner and having taken the oath as prescribed by Law. Now therefore he is authorized and fully empowered to discharge and perform all and singular the duties appertaining to the said appointment according to law. In testimony whereof, I have hereunto signed my name and affixed my seal of office on this 29th day of July AD 1844. Croft and $40 dollars in favor of the Parish of Union. And Thos. VanHook herewith Curator of said Estate files a statement of debts as presented to him for settlement and allowances to wit: To Penick & Slawson, 1 fine coffin for deceased 25.00 Carson & Bayless, bill of goods for shroud, coffin &c 15.26 Savage & Redding, Medicine and prescription in last illness 27.75 Law charges Hon. VanHook resident of your said Parish Curator of the Estate of Frances Muldoon, deceased represents that the foregoing statement exhibits a true account of his acts and doings as Curator of the said Estate and he prays that same may be filed and homologated according to law. That he be authorized to pay the debts of said Estate and for general relief as in duty bound &c. Thos. VanHook, Curator By reason of the Law and evidence in this case and the within account having been advertised more than ten days previous to this date it is ordered, adjudged and decreed that same be Homologated and approved and that the Curator pay the debts as prayed for.
