Fletcher Parish, Union Parish Louisiana Union Parish Louisiana Succession Book E, pp. 769 - 774 ================================================================================== To the Honorable the Judge of the 11th Judicial District Court in and for the Parish of Union, State of Louisiana. The petition of Susannah E. Parish, resident of Union Parish aforesaid respectfully shows that D. Fletcher Parish, late of the same residence on or about the 14th of February just departed life at his late residence in said Parish and State intestate, leaving a small estate consisting of land, household and kitchen furniture, some five head of stock and some hogs and a surviving spouse, your petitioner. Petitioner represents further that the deceased was somewhat in debt and that it is necessary an administrator should be appointed to represent the succession and settle the same. Being the survivor in community has the right before any other to administer said estate. Wherefore, she prays for an inventory and appraisement of said estate and that after the legal advertisement and delays she be appointed Administratrix of the said Estate on taking the oath and giving bond according to law, for all orders and decrees necessary in the premises and for general relief &c. Jno. L. Barrett, Atty. State of Louisiana 11th Judicial District Court Parish of Union The premises considered, it is ordered and decreed that the within application of Susannah E. Parish to be appointed Administratrix be advertised according to law. It is further ordered that W. C. Smith, Parish Recorder &c be and he is hereby authorized and commanded to make an inventory and appraisement of the property belonging to the Estate of D. F. Parish and due return make to this office without delay. Done and signed in office on this the 19th day of February 1862. J. L. Guthrie, Clerk State of Louisiana Parish of Union I, John T. Youngblood and I, Richard C. Howell, do solemnly swear that I will faithfully and impartially perform all and singular the duties incumbent on me as an appraiser in making an inventory and appraisement of all the property belonging to the Estate of D. F. Parish, Decd. late a resident of the Parish of Union, being assisted by John T. Youngblood and Richard C. Howell, good and lawful citizens of the Parish of Union, who being duly appointed and sworn by me the said Recorder as appraisers and in presence of lawful witnesses, we proceeded to make said inventory and appraisement as follows to wit: 120 acres land more or less situated in the Parish of Union known as the late residence of the Decd. with all the improvements thereon apprd. @ $300.00 13 head stock hogs apprd. @ 20.00 1 cow and yearling apprd. @ 10.00 60 bushels corn more or less apprd. @ 30.00 200 pounds fodder apprd. @ 1.50 1 man's saddle apprd. @ 8.00 1 pair stilyards apprd. @ 1.00 1 lot farming utensils 10.00 3 bales cotton, 1500 pounds more or less __97.00 $469.50 Having completed the foregoing inventory and appraisement, I have on this the 3rd day of March AD 1862 closed the same, in testimony whereof I have caused said appraisers to sign their names hereto in the presence of Thos. P. Dendy and James C. parish, witnesses of lawful age and domicile, who have also signed with said appraisers and me the said Recorder on this the day and date above written. ATTEST: R. C. Parish, as principal and James C. Parish and J. T. Youngblood as her securities are held and firmly bound unto W. B. Egan, Judge of the 11th Judicial District Court, Parish of Union, Louisiana in the sum of seven hundred dollars to the true and faithful payment thereof well and truly to be made, we bind ourselves, our heirs and assigns, legal representatives &c firmly by these presents. Dated February 27th 1862. The condition of the above obligation is such that whereas the said Susan E. Parish has been duly and legally appointed Administratrix of the Estate of D. F. Parish, Decd. and she hath given bond and taken the oath prescribed by law. Now, therefore if the said Susan E. parish shall administer said Estate faithfully and shall do and perform all the acts in and about said Estate and shall render a true and correct account to the Judge of said court or to his successors in office and when legally required so to do to pay over all sums to the legal heirs aforesaid Estate or to the proper person or person to receive the same, then this obligation to be null and void. Otherwise to be and remain in full force and virtue. Done, signed and acknowledged on the day and date above written being the 27th day of February AD 1862. ATTEST: Susan E. Parish D. K. McLaurins, James Parish Justice of the Peace J. T. Youngblood State of Louisiana 11th Judicial District Court Parish of Union I, Susan E. Parish, do solemnly swear that I will faithfully and impartially discharge all and singular the duties incumbent on me as Administratrix of the Estate of D. F. Parish, Decd. to the best of my ability and understanding. So help me God. Susan E. Parish Sworn to and subscribed before me this 27th day February AD 1862. D. K. McLaurins, J.P. State of Louisiana 11th District Court Parish of Union Succession of D. F. Parish, Decd. Whereas Mrs. Susan E. parish has been duly and legally appointed Administratrix of the Estate of D. F. Parish, Decd. and she has given bond with good security and taken the oath prescribed by law. Now therefore the said Susan E. Parish is hereby duly and legally authorized and empowered to do and perform all acts appertaining to said appointment according to law. Given under my hand and seal of said court this the 28th day of February 1862. J. L. Guthrie, Clerk To the Honorable the Judge of the 11th Judicial District Court in and for the Parish of Union, Louisiana. The petition of Susan E. parish, Administratrix of the Estate of D. F. Parish, Decd., a resident of your Parish and State aforesaid respectfully shows that said estate is insolvent. She hereto annexes a Tableau of distribution and statement of debts from which statement $469.31 it appears that the amount of ordinary debits is $469.31 Four hundred and sixty nine and 31/100 Dollars and further that there are privileged debts first law charges say fifty dollars. She further represents that under the law, she is entitled to one thousand dollars out of the estate as surviving widow of the deceased. She further alleges that the whole amount of property belonging to the succession is according to the appraisement only four hundred and fifty nine dollars and fifty cents. Wherefore, she prays that her statement of debts be advertised according to law and after the legal delays, she be ordered by the court to pay first the law charges, say fifty dollars, and second the privilege claims of the surviving widow for one thousand dollars and so much of the same as there is amounts to pay and thirdly a [unreadable] if anything be left upon the ordinary claims herein set forth in the statement of debts and for all orders necessary and for general relief &c. F. Parish, Decd. Statement of debts The premises considered and for the reason that the law is in favor thereof it is hereby ordered, adjudged and decreed that the Tableau and statement of debts accompanying this petition of Susan E. Parish, Administratrix, be advertised according to law. Done and signed in office on this November 27th AD 1862. Jas. L. Guthrie, Clerk State of Louisiana Parish of Union By reason of the law and the evidence being in favor of petitioner and by the further reason that the foregoing statement of debts has been advertised according to law for more than thirty days to wit: from November 27th 1862 to January 3rd 1863 and that no opposition has been made thereto, it is hereby ordered, adjudged and decreed that Susan E. Parish, Administratrix do pay the debts of the Estate of D. H. Parish as set forth in the statement of debts as follows: first law changes, 2nd the claim of the surviving widow to one thousand dollars and third the ordinary debts to be paid in full or each a pro rata show after the payment of the privilege claims or debts. Done and signed in office on this January 3rd 1863. Jas. L. Guthrie, Clerk Succesion of D. F. Parish Homolgation of Final act or Statement of debts filed by Susan E. Parish, Administratrix 1st Statement filed 2nd J. L. Guthrie sworn says that the said statement was filed on the 27th day of November 1862 and has been legally advertised in the following manner to wit: by posting one copy of the same at the court house door and causing two other copies to be posted in public places in said Parish and that there has been no opposition filed to said final act or Homolgation thereof up to the present date.
