Patton died in the Army on 9 June 1862. However, I have not located any record of his Confederate military service. He is probably the W. S. Patton, born about 1840 in Alabama, who is living near Shiloh in the household of William Patton. ================================================================================== ================================================================================== To the Honorable the Judge of the 11th Judicial District Court in and for the Parish of Union, State of Louisiana. The petition of William M. Patton, a resident of your aforesaid Parish and State respectfully represents that on or about the 9th of June last 1862 Moses S. Patton of your said Parish departed this life intestate while in the Army, that he left a small property consisting of Negroes, personal effects, rights and credits; that he also left two brothers Harrison W. Patton of Claiborne Parish, Louisiana and your petitioner in this State; that he left a Father Solomon P. Patton still living in Ala. And two other brothers and two sisters also riding in Ala. To wit: James F. and John N. Patton and Harriette Patton, wife of James Doans [sic] and Mary Patton wife of Berry Purgurson [sic]. Wherefore your petitioner prays that he be appointed Administrator of said Estate after the legal advertisements and delays that an appraisement and inventory of the same be made; that an attorney to represent the absent heirs be appointed for all orders and decrees necessary in the premises and full general and equitable rights. William M. Patton State of Louisiana Parish of Union The premises considered, it is ordered and decreed that the within application be advertised according to law. It is further ordered that William C. Smith, Parish Recorder &c be and he is hereby authorized to make an inventory and appraisement of the property of Moses S. Patton, Decd. and make return to this office without delay. Done and signed in office this the 8th of December AD 1862. J. L. Barrett be and he is hereby appointed Attorney for the absent heirs of the Estate of Moses Patton, Decd. upon his taking the oath prescribed by law.
